Five French servicemen were injured during secret training in Bulgaria after a clash with three local Bulgarian peasants ;D
Servicemen with the Action Department of the French external intelligence have recently had problems in Bulgaria during a secret training in the middle of October, the French magazine Marianne writes.
On 16 October early in the morning, close to the village of Koilovtsi near the city of Pleven, five French servicemen were attacked by local residents, because they were taken for Roma thieves. Two of them suffer minor gun wounds in the legs and a third one sustains a broken nose. The incident occurred in a field of alfalfa which three Bulgarians were protecting against raids.
Two of the French servicemen entered Bulgaria illegally by a parachute, flying over the border with Romania on a glider. Some of the servicemen speak Bulgarian and said they were extreme athletes. In the end the Frenchmen were returned to France on 20 October.
The General Directorate for External Security refused to comment on the information. Thus there is no official refutation of the incident.
What exactly happened on the night of October 15 in the outskirts of the city of Pleven in Bulgaria? The area some 170 km from the capital Sofia, in the city with 150,000 population occurred curious accident involving five people who presented themselves as French citizens. Surprised and taken for thieves in the night, the Frenchmen were attacked by armed villagers who surrounded their all-road vehicle, Le Point newspaper comments.
Several Bulgarian websites told about the incident. They say the incident escalated to a scuffle, the Bulgarians even used firearms. Two Frenchmen were wounded in the legs, one suffers a broken nose, while the rest managed to escape.
The most astonishing fact is that in and around the vehicle the Bulgarian villagers found computers, neoprene diving equipment, professional camera and many other interesting items. The wounded men, who were taken to hospital after being asked to contact the French Embassy in Bulgaria, explained that they are sportsmen, practicing extreme sports. They explained that two of the group jumped with a glider from an airplane above Romania and landed 40 kilometers far from the place of jumping. They met with their friends who have come to Bulgaria by plane arriving at Sofia airport.
Shortly after Bulgaria the French authorities had been contacted, Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said that the French citizens will be send to Paris. The Minister pointed out for FOCUS News Agency that it is about travelers who have received adequate medical treatment. "The most important thing is that the case is resolved," the Minister added, stressing that only the prosecution can start legal proceedings.
We know that tourists and other extreme athletes can do strange trips, but not so as to descend over Romania wearing an outfit for diving. And on top of that to land in Bulgaria ... According to our data it is about a training mission of operative agents of the Directorate General for External Security (DGSE), whose program has not proceeded as planned. The French blogger first spoke of a "three French soldiers from the DGSE, injured during training in Bulgaria."
