Those darn Germans .... Greece may recognize Kosovo
Recent tensions between Athens and Belgrade could push Greece to recognize the independence of Kosovo
World Bulletin / News Desk
Greek newspaper Kathimerini, cites "foreign policy circles" in Athens, when it writes about Greece dissatisfaction with Belgrade's international moves regarding Kosovo and the name dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Recognition of FYR Macedonia by Belgrade under its constitutional name "Macedonia", meant "throwing down the gauntlet at Greece, which has always supported Serbia all these years."
"Belgrade's recognition of FYROM under its constitutional name, a move that was a slap to Greece, which has consistently supported Serbia all these years, is an old story that Athens did not pay too much attention in the past," said Dr. Ioannis Armakolas from the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP).
"I think that the statement of Minister Dacic that a potential change of the Greek stance on Kosovo would be contrary to international law and friendly relations between the two countries was tactless," he added.
Armakolas Greece will recognize Kosovo out of spite and revenge for Serbia recognizing "Macedonia".
Greece is one of the five EU countries that do not recognize Kosovo's independence.
