Greeks and Croats are rather very similar
GREEKS AND CROATS ARE VERY SIMILAR
They all agree, everyone is against them, they live above possibilities, they do not like aliens (strangers) ...

Although we think that the crisis is behind us, every day we begin to wake up and realize that this is not true. "Problematic" Greece has been in focus for almost five years, whether because of the mentality of disruption or because of the fact that some party forces have been removed
These days, we came to the hands of "Unhappiness of Being Greek" in the hands of the book, "It's not easy to be Greek", interesting especially at the time when Europe is talking about Greece and trying to figure out what's happening to it.
A writer of 65 books and philosopher Nikos Dimou, best known for his provocative and brilliant essays and aphorisms. Of course, many Greeks are nervous, and some hold it with a traitor. The book, released for the first time in 1975, has become a bestseller and has had 30 more releases and a lot of translations. And more importantly, judging by the quotation, as though it had not been lost in its freshness and actuality.
Dimou is trying to find out how to understand them in the mentality of the fellow citizens and to answer the question of how to understand them, touching on key terms like myths, fears, pride, lust, economics, religion, sex and more.
So why is it difficult to be a Greek?
"First of all because they have an identity problem," says Dimou. They live between east and west, old glory and new poverty. The first is the belief that he laughed that the Greeks originated directly from the ancient Greeks, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, and Pericles, and thus lead to an impossible comparison of the climaxes of classical Greek civilization. By them, it is entirely self-evident that they, as the "offspring" of the old Greeks, can not possibly be urbanized Balkan peasants, which in fact are.
This kind of realistically misguided self-assumption leads them directly to depression and a complex of lesser value. That is why self-pity is another of their characteristics. They are very prone to the conspiracy theories, eternally threaten others, blackmail them, humiliate them or even do not understand them. Which tells them they think theirs is always the fault of everyone.
Responsibility? Responsibility does not fall from heaven, her society is developing - only that society is not Greek. "We are people who do not think rationally but emotionally," says Dimou, and this is a sign of immaturity.
Another problem is the relationship with Europe. How Greeks are actually Europeans? The Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution were pervaded by them, not to mention the centuries under the Turks. But the Greek classical culture is based on European values and they are part of the EU. Judging by this author, they are closer to orthodox Russia than to the rationalism of Europe. The question that has no answer, or the answer depends on the circumstances is: Are the Greeks European Orient - or the Orientals of Europe? But this is the result of another Greek characteristic, that they are not used to looking into the mirror.
Their self-propagation is not a stronger side, although, when already mentioned in classical Greece, the remains of the Apollo's Temple in Delphi include the engraved words: Know yourself. The absence of introspection can be seen as being always right, and Greece holds the center of the world. It is a characteristic and recent anecdote with Y. Varoufakis, who reminded the Finance Minister of Lithuania that their retirees had a much lower pension, the Baha'ad replied: Maybe these money are enough for you, but not for us Greeks.
The Greek does everything in his power to spread the gap between desire and reality, and when he succeeds, then he is unhappy about it. His life is either in the state of enthusiasm or depression. Exaggeration is the core of national identity, which often leads to tragic, sometimes comic situations. That is why perhaps the best key to understanding the Greek mentality is precisely that propensity to hyperbole, overwhelming or exaggerating.
"They live twice as high above their capability. They promise three times more than I can make. They claim to know four times more than they learned. They make it feel five times more than they feel, "Dimou mentally observes.
Greeks must reconsider themselves and solve myths and misgivings to survive in the modern world. They will endure complexes only when they cease to hate because of what they are not and accept themselves as they are.
Although some aphorisms like this seem humorous, most are not. According to the edition of 2012. Dimou writes: The reader who likes this book is probably not Greek. For the Greeks it is painful. Perhaps they will laugh at some aphorisms, but when the closure is going to be sad. But despite the bitter reflections, he claims to express love in this way, as he says, to true Greece, not the product of myths and superficial insights.
As you read the booklet, it is hard to get rid of the impression that many observations can be applied to the Croatians as well. After all, people who are grumbling, worshiping, inventing myths, are always right, living beyond their ability, are all against them, they do not like aliens, and are not sure about their identity they are so similar to us , so we can do well to deal with them mistakes about yourself. However, if someone wrote this self-copy book about how hard it is to be a Croat, he probably would not have experienced it becoming a bestseller with more than 30 editions, but would be silent as recently as Boru Dežulovic. We, unlike the Greeks, are easily relinquished to brilliant feathers because our criticism, analysis and self-examination seem completely redundant.
Do not think that there is nothing to say about this crisis, Dimou has published a book entitled "Germans are wrong for everyone" in 2014!
