Ethnic Greek man reported killed by Albanian police in shootout
Albanian police reportedly shot and killed an ethnic Greek man on Sunday after he opened fire against officers taking down a Greek flag at a World War II cemetery in the village of Bularat, some 6 kilometers from Albania's border with Greece.
According to Albanian media reports the man, identified as 35-year-old Konstantinos Kacifa (Katsifas), opened fire against officers with a Kalashnikov assault rifle as they were taking down the flag he had raised at a cemetery for Greek soldiers who died in battle. The incident took place as the village, which is mostly ethnic Greek, marked the anniversary of Greece's entry into the war in 1940.
Kacifa reportedly ran into the village firing his weapon and then into the mountains in an effort to evade arrest but was intercepted shortly after by a team from the Albanian police's special forces, who claimed that the 35-year-old shot at them before they opened fire and killed him.
Kacifa, whose family hailed from the northwestern Greek town of Ioannina, was born and grew up in Bularat but had been living in Athens recently, according to reports. Photographs in Greek media show him dressed in military-style clothes, with a Greek flag patch on his arm.
Police confirmed his death in a shootout, according to the Associated Press.

Albanian Police Kill Greek Who Raised Greece’s Flag in Northern Epirus after Allegedly He Fired at Them By Nick Kampouris - Oct 28, 2018
Konstantinos Katsifas, born in Northern Epirus, had raised the Greek flag at a Greek cemetery in
Vouliarates for those who lost their lives in the area fighting the Axis forces during WWII.
A 35-year-old Greek, named Konstantinos Katsifas, was shot dead by the Albanian ”Rinea” special forces near the village Bularat (Vouliarates) in Albania’s northern Epirus region, 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the Greek-Albanian border.
According to Albania’s Top-channel portal, the 35-year-old used a Kalashnikov to shoot toward the Albanian police forces who removed the flag following the ”OXI Day” celebrations in the village.
Bularat (Vouliarates) is a small village in northern Epirus region, 4 miles from the Greek-Albanian border.
According to a statement issued by the Albanian police, when Katsifas was found, he denied surrendering and started shooting toward the policemen, who, in return, shot him dead.
Konstantinos Katsifas was an ethnic Greek who was born in the village of Bularat but was currently living in the Greek capital of Athens, according to Associated Press.
Katsifas recently posted on his personal account on Facebook a picture of himself, calling ”all the Greeks of Northern Epirus to send a message in all directions during the celebrations of ‘OXI Day’ on October 28”.

The Albanian Police posted a picture of the cars that Katsifas allegedly shot during their efforts to arrest him, before he ran to escape in the nearby mountainous area.
The photos were published by the Albanian Police
The Greek Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued on Sunday evening, expressed its condemnation and stated that ”it is unacceptable that the operation led to the death of the Greek citizen” and demanded from the Albanian authorities to clarify the exact circumstances under which the fatal incident took place.
The Greek Minister of Culture, Myrsini Zorba, was in Bularat that day for the celebrations of the Greek National day, and in her post on Facebook, said that there was no flag that was taken down:
"All Greek Flags, present representatives of the Greek and Albanian Government, the Greek Embassy, deputies, mayors and the children of the school. Speeches, awards, speech by the Ambassador, national hymn of Greece and Albania, children's poems. We left at three in the afternoon without any worries. In the meantime, we were informed that a Greek expatriate had threatened to fire in the morning. No Greek flag was taken down, they were all up. After 3pm on the way back, we were informed that the Greek was encircled, the police asked him to surrender, was not surrendered and killed him."
According to the family:
"The boy did a stupid thing and such an event does not have to be politicized. We are trying to calm the waters both in Greece and in Albania. We are neighbors and things should not be misinterpreted"
Apparently he was a member of the Golden Dawn, recently divorced and suffered from depression:
First off, its bad this kid was killed. In the region we should start providing jobs and stability instead of hatred and (police) brutality. That being said, in the Greek forums I saw the first signs of brotherhood with Slavic Makedonians which is a good thing. I mean west unleashed all its anger against Slavs, programming Greeks against them, but the killing came from their "brotherly" Albanians, "descendents of the Illyrian Greeks (allegedly)".
All in all, I think this is clearly a plot, lets see how it turns out.
After the Greek terrorist Kostandinos Kaçifa shouted “kill the Albanians” and shot an entire magazine of bullets including shooting toward the Albanian police and one of the homes near by giving Albanian authorities no choice but to take his life, the Greek government instead of apologizing to the Albanian people for this mad man they demand an explanation and apology from the Albanian government for taking the life of a terrorist.
Well I kind of agree, fake Hellenism is the cause here.
How can Greece explain why their soldier shot at the police?
Now this event has served as "food" for the extremist in Greece, which have launched fascist protests and calls against Albanians
The Greek state needs to take action against the Golden Dawn ,Mavi etc as an extremist organization that should be forbidden by law.
Again Fake Hellenisms is cause of many problems in the Balkans for the last 100 years.
Extremists from "Kosova" have been attacking civilization and Christianity in Kosovo in the most disgusting and brutal manners.
I believe Albanians have a lot of work to do against extremism before they give lectures to anyone.
Fake Albaniansm go hand in hand with anything false and fake.
The guys who came in the Balkans in 1050 AD but still want to claim all balkans, earth and the nearby galaxies while in essense they are a wild tribe which has not contrubuted anything to the scientific or technical world, should keep quiet, behave and learn.
Same holds true for neo-Greeks of course. We should learn from Europe/Slavs.
