Hello everyone. I read this entire forum and I'm a little shocked on all sides. I don't really get the indirect animosity. If you are a Greek and are weary of Albanian immigrants-- you have a point. Statistics have a merit (In Suburbia US, walking in a "black" neighborhood I would usually avoid ANY eye contact). However, to generalize and say that all Albanians had/have low education is simply not true. One of the hallmarks of communism is that what it lacked in human rights, it made up in tough and mandatory education with virtually 100% literacy rate. Someone mentioned earlier that Albanians should learn to bake bread... That's funny, my great grandfather was the baker of his town ;D However to assume that ALL Albanian immigrants are mostly good for such kinds of job is a discriminatory remark. A TRULY EDUCATED person knows the value of perspective which leads someone to not apply preconceived notions (which IMO are entirely justified) to individuals. If you believe that Albanians are simply inferior (if by genes or education or whatever...) then you will not give someone a fair chance. THAT I think is uneducated. For example, my great grandfather might have been a hardworking baker, but grandfather(both), grandmothers(both), my parents and I all had/have university degrees... and PhD. My parents friends are engineers and are fully integrated in Athens (despite facing discrimination-mostly being perceived as inferior). You might hear all the bad press, but you might not hear about the good cases. In any case, personally very much like the Greeks. I have visited as a tourist 3 times; I thought the scenery was beautiful and the nightlife fantastic. On my first night in Athens I had to find my friend (a Greek that spent her childhood in Albania). Well... I got lost and stopped at a periptero(spelling?) so I could call her. The owner was a charming jolly man who called my friend for me, and INSISTED that I wait for her with him. We spoke in broken English, Italian, German and... fingers ;D. Nonetheless, he managed to tell me of his hard times as an emigrant in Germany. It was hilarious! In general I have been fairly treated. My point? If we empathize a little we can get along. I have very good Greek friends and we grew much closer by discussing our differences and giving each other perspective. And I direct this NOT just to Greeks but to Albanians also. Donnie I really admire your courage and pride, but let's not resort to calling pede etc... seriously. You're above that Albanians shouldn't say that Greeks don't deserve EU membership. Greeks, very similarly to us achieved their prosperity through hardship, emigration (after WWII), and political stability which gave way to the development of tourism. I am confident that the winding path to prosperity isn't too different. "All Roads lead to Rome". We just aren't there yet. In addition, Greece is the birthplace of democracy and they have given so much rich culture to the European tradition. Screw economic indicators.... That alone should get them in Personally I don't think Albania should be in the EU. Why play catch up dog all the time? When we're ready, we'll get there... HOWEVER, when it comes to culture we ALL hava a rich common one. Think of the Konstantin and Doruntina ballad (where the tradition of keeping your word is illustrated)-- Nearly ALL Balkanik traditions have a version of this! Anyways, weren't we talking about skin colour? Those pics show really dark people . We're not really like that... We just get too much sun. After I've left Albania I've been snow white for a while. Man I would love to take a vacation by the beautiful Nafplio coast again

Welcome Arlin.... some sane words in a sea of insanity....
There is one thing we excel at and that is to get on each others nerves.... we used to have some exceptional members here... Alb&Greek... but they gave up on us..... I know Donnie is a smart fellow.... but I think we have turned him into what he has become now.... hopefully we can revert this trend..
