It's funny how the Swedes are buying up the market all over the world. IKEA isn't that bad in furniture, but the computer desk I bought from IKEA came with a missing part. I got it eventually, but still.

Walmart and Home Depot are worse. All I see are illegal Mexicans working there.

You have to keep this in perspective. Yes, it is 14,000 jobs, but Croatian consumers will be paying for those salaries, and domestic producers will be driven out of business.

^^ if it were a choice between a domestic producer or a foreign one, id go with the latter.
Countless foreign companies have set up shop in Croatia and offer better pay, job security, and working conditions than their domestic competitors. For example: Lidl (foreign company) offer their workers 4500 - 5000 kn a month salary while their domestic competitors cannot even come close to this figure ... offering roughly 2700 - 3000 kn. You do the math.

Yes, if there was a Croatian equivalent to IKEA. I don't know if there is such, hence the founding of IKEA won't destroy the domestic market. If anything, if there is a rise in the competition the consumers will ultimately benefit. That's the pro of capitalism. Plus, there is a 15% unemployment rate; it's not as if it won't be appreciated.
Any country that wants to stay independent needs to have self-sufficiency.

14,000 seems to large a figure. May be 1,400. I've never seen or heard of an Ikea store employing that large a figure.

^ Even 1,400 is too big... I'm assuming most of the jobs will be construction-related

Walmart is a good example of destroying the local corner side shop.

Ikea usually doesn't destroy local producers, it often sells products from local producers. Ikea is planning to open soon in Serbia and it recently signed to have some Serbian produced products in it's stores around Europe.

Its a way of luring locals to by some of its products. Hey in Australia we used to have a mcdonalds burger called the Aussie burger, now its changed to the backyard burger.....very patriotic lol

Viktor, can you please post with useful information and counterarguments, instead of calling people names. Thanks.
