It wasnt seperation, it was unity. Something which a minority couldnt handle. They couldnt even understand the concept of democracy. And it wasnt as if TMT helped in the early 1950's. Worked both ways buddy.
And ofcourse theyd want their own state. Free land, anybody will take it. Ask the Kurds if they take up their own seperate state. Im sure they'd jump at the chance.
I dont care about the Turkish Cypriots, they are just people to me. I care about my parents homes in the north. I care about the remains of my grandparents somewhere in the north.
But, peace within wont occure until peace with others will occur. And the Turkish army is making sure no peace doesnt go ahead.

Yes you are right. Its up to the Turkish Cypriots to realise how much the Turks have screwed them up and stagnated their progression.
One glimpse of this light will fortell major success for the TC's. But with eyes shut, progression is not achievable.,

Like I said. Allot of waiting involved. The T Cypriots cant hold out much loner. They are getting jobs in the south to feed their families in the 'fertile and wealthy' north.

"It said that authorities there were concerned that too much money was being spent in the south"
Come on. The Greek Cypriots spend so much on your casinos. And all that money is used to build fancy water fountains and flame shooting mountians around them.
Whats a couple hundred euros on shopping ? LoL

llegal regime imposes heavy fines on purchases from the South.
The illegal northern regime is continuing its attempts at keeping the Turkish Cypriots isolated, by implementing measures that are proving detrimental to Turkish Cypriots who shop in the government-controlled south of the island.
According to the Turkish Cypriot media, a number of people returning to the north have been fined ostensibly for exceeding the 135 euro limit on the value of goods purchased in the government-controlled south. In one case, a Turkish Cypriot who bought two office chairs had them confiscated at the checkpoint by ‘police’. The man was then fined £40 for this violation, the same reports said. Under the banner ‘Caution: severe fines’, Kibris warned Turkish Cypriots that the regime was implementing its crackdown on shoppers. It said that authorities there were concerned that too much money was being spent in the south. Other newspapers carried comments by Turkish Cypriot ‘Finance Minister’ Ahmet Uzun, who said that the 135 euros quota did not apply to such items as furniture.
The crackdown has been debated in the Turkish Cypriot parliament, with opposition parties saying authorities’ actions were in breach of the Green Line Regulation. Last March reports surfaced that Turkish Cypriot customs police might act to prevent all trade with the Greek Cypriot side, including shopping, if the government continued to block the implementation of a direct trade agreement between the north and the EU.

Wishful thinking lad.
Complying to demans in the forthcoming years ? Cyprus has been going strong for the last 33 years. So many improvements and with such catastrophy that occured to them.
Its Turkey who will not be able to afford to pay for "TRNC" for much longer. North Cyprus is Turkeys barganing chip. They dont care about the Turkish Cypriots.
""and then you will begin to acknowledge the Turkish suzerainty over the Cyprus affairs""
yeh like Cyprus has done with ther oil in the sea. LoL getting slapped around by Cyprus what a laugh.

No recognition, says Millet Peter Millet "We will not recognise so-called
TRNC," Millett tells reception
By Charlie Charalambous
BRITAIN yesterday offered an olive branch to Cyprus over the Turkey partnership row by renouncing any moves to upgrade the breakaway north.
British High Commissioner Peter Millett gave the clearest message yet to Nicosia that London wants to positively re-engage after a turbulent few weeks.
In a deliberate effort to break the diplomatic ice, Millett had a self-confessed ‘read my lips’ moment.
"We will not recognise the so-called ‘TRNC’, the British diplomat told reporters at a High Commission reception yesterday.
"I don’t know how many times we have to say that for people to believe it. The perception that we are in a game of upgrading the north is completely wrong."
Millett was making his first public comment since London signed the partnership agreement with Turkey that backed direct contact with the Turkish Cypriots north.
The High Commissioner chose his words very carefully in what was a concerted attempt to win over a Cyprus government still fuming over the pact.
Determination
"Contact with the Turkish Cypriot community does not mean recognition...I also want to say we will continue to oppose partition."
Millett has recently returned from London where he held contacts with ministers and "key people" who have a very close interest in Cyprus.
Presumably a re-think was necessary for the British government following Cyprus' opposition to the Turkey deal signed on October 30.
"I want to reiterate, yet again, our firm commitment, our determination to work with Cyprus as one of your best friends within the European Union."
He stressed that the overtures of friendship came from the very top.
"And this is not just a message from me. I represent the British government and what I say is said with the authority and the agreement of ministers and of the foreign office and of the British government as a whole."
Struggling
Millett was also unequivocal over Britain's stance on the July 8 agreement and the urgent need for progress on that twin-track process.
"We are committed to implementing the 8 July 2006 agreement. No ifs, or buts, or caveats to that."
"I hope it will be done in the next few weeks, but at the very least, we’re looking to 2008 as a significant year."
Moreover, Britain is in the business of persuading Turkey to implement its EU obligations, including "important obligations" which are clear towards Cyprus. "This is a joint strategic objective after all, of both London and Nicosia, we’ll continue to play our role in that," said Millett.
Cyprus-Britain diplomacy is struggling to keep its head above water as the government engages in below-the-radar retaliatory measures against London's perceived pro-'TRNC' policies.
Nicosia pulled out of a joint forum with Britain in retaliation for London's partnership deal that envisages high-level contacts with the breakaway north.
Ironically, the forum was part of a "structured dialogue" initiated two years ago to improve ties after relations between the fellow EU members imploded.
The government regards the deal struck in London as a bid to dissuade Ankara from military action in northern Iraq in return for upgraded British ties with the occupied areas.
Britain denies the agreement reached between Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan spelt any change in policy towards Cyprus.
An article of the agreement pledged that Britain would work with its European Union partners to "promote direct commercial, economic, political and cultural contacts" with the Turkish Cypriots.
They will also provide "continued help for ‘TRNC’ au-thorities/universities in their attempts to engage with the Bologna process" and will uphold "the right of representation of the Turkish Cypriots in the European Parliament."
Direct trade between the EU and the Turkish Cypriots was halted by a European court decision in 1994.
