Kusturica and Markovic among the best 500 directors Author: Beta | 23.11.2007 - 06:00
Emir Kusturica and Goran Markovic, the two Serbian film directors, have been included in the book titled "501 Movie Directors", published in Great Britain and the USA, according to Dejan Ognjanovic, an essayist.
The book was published several days ago by English publisher "Quintesence" and American publisher "Barrons" and it covers biography, filmography, historical and esthetic significance of 501 film director according to Steven Jay Schneider's choice. The text about Emir Kusturica is written by Nathaniel Carlson, while the text about Goran Markovic is written by Dejan Ognjanovic, a writer, essayist and film critic from Nis. Markovic's film "Deja vu" (or "Reflections") is the only Serbian film included in the collection "100 Best European Horror Films" composed by Schneider for the British Film Institute, while Ognjanovic is the author of the essay about the film. There are no other film directors from ex-Yugoslav republics included in the book, with the exception of Kusturica and Markovic. Among the associates working on this book, the majority being from English speaking countries, apart from Ognjanovic, there is only one young film critic from Montenegro, Aleksandar Becanovic.
