Lavrov: Russia will strictly adhere to international law 26. November 2007. 14:47
If the West ahould recognize the independence of Kosmet, Russia will strictly adhere to the principles of the international law, including the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1244, which clearly defines how to act in relation to resolving the status of the Province, stated Head of the Russian Diplomacy Sergey Lawrow. He pointed out that Russia will insist that it is unacceptable to allow for undermining of a principle of territorial integrity, and he expressed expectation that the scenario of the unilateral proclamation and recognition of the Kosmet independence will not be realized. Lawrow added that OSCE, as a protector of the Final Helsinki Act should firmly pledge for the confirmation of principles in that document. There are serious differences among Russia, USA and EU regarding several issues, including Kosmet, pointed Lawrow, while assessing that there is room for compromise and that Moscow will not save time or effort to make it happen. "that the West may recognize Kosovo and Russia may not be a part of that decision, they are starting to feel unheard and left out"
Then why was Ahtisaari's proposal scrapped.

"West may recognize Kosovo"
So what? You think Pristina wants "recognition" without a UN seat? Even that nut Kurti knows the score. Serbia has said it will place a total blockade on Kosovo if that happens. They will cut off electricity supplies to the province and ban ethnic Albanians and their goods from crossing the borders. There will be total train and transportation ban. Pristina knows that Kosovo cannot survive without foreign help, in terms of economic aid and security.

It is in the best line of this debate to ignore this ugly siptarka, i mean, stara mome mimicaRussia should be allowed to open a militatry base in the border with Kosmet. This will be in the interest of the whole region. Show the yanks that as eastern europeans we know what's good for us.

that the West may recognize Kosovo and Russia may not be a part of that decision, they are starting to feel unheard and left out Hi Mimi. Unfortunately you are wrong to the fullest extent. Russia has the exact same situation in Chechnya, and that position would be threatened if Kosovo just gets independence. Thanks for your non-political answer though, very entertaining!
