Greetings !
My name is Frank and I am an American interested in the Balkans . Please note that I mean to express my interests to all the Balkans and not just Serbia but I have posted on this Serbian forum as it seems the most active .
As an American I feel that my country has much to learn from the Balkans as the Balkans have been a focal point in world history and modern day events that have not recieved the attention they deserve from the American public .
Often we hear words such as ' Balkanization' used in American politics but few really have any knowledge to really comprehend what this means .
I am dissapointed that the Balkans are all but non-existent in my country's media sources . Rarely are important topics such as Kosovo , Macedonia , Greece , Bosnia , and Croatia ever discussed here . I think these places have a tremendous impact on American foreign policy.
It often baffels me that the Balkans seem unexplainable from the American point of view. Especially when it regards our foreign policy . In our efforts to thwart terrorism we have taken a strong stance against classically defined ' Muslim countries' or at least countries that constitute a muslim majority . Yet in the Balkans we seem very supportive of majority muslim countries/regions at least in the political sense .
I have heard many conspiracies concerning our Balkan politics in relation to the rest of the world but have not yet come up with anything concrete simply because Balkan-American relations are not discussed and hardly presented to the public .
I am a Christian but far from promoting any sort of Christian ideology . The fight in Serbia-Kosovo for example isn't simply between Christians and Muslims but more acutely between Serbs and Albanians in which religion has only become a subpar factor . I am convinced that Serbs do not fight for Christianty and Albanians do not fight for Islam . While there are certainly religious people from both sides nationalism is often a more motivating factor . Serbs could not have fought and can not ' still be' fighting in the name of Christianity because only a few years ago they were involved in an open conflict and war with another Christian nation who are Croats .
Which affirms my point that ferverant nationalism motivates all Balkanians to fight eachother and religion is not as prounounced as it is when involving the Middle East . The point of illustrating this was to affirm my understanding of this term known as ' Balkanization' which is common in American politics.
I would greatly appreciate input from Serbs , Croats , Greeks , Macedonians , Bosnian Muslims , Turks Romanians , Bulgarians , and all other Balkan nations to help me gather a better understanding of the region and specifically how it relates to American politics from the Balkan POV .
Thanks . -Frank

Now Frank; Before you try to ''understand'' the term Balkanization you ought to reach out to the external USA policy that, in some ways or soon will fall (or already has fallen) as a boomerang into the internal policy.
It is not only the balkans which have not and does not receive attention to your nation, your country has a very dark image in the past regarding the genocide of the native indians (hunting their scalps). As for the previous century, your dark stance and the rise of a pariah starts with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Do not make me remind you all the countries your boot stamped on and butchered the innocent civilians. Do you pay attention to those events? Do they teach your kids at school what your Government's policy is and, how you transport the ''democracy'' with guns by sending your army to occupy other countries?
It is not only the balkans you do not pay attention, it is the whole world and the events with fatal end that, your Government creates by fight instead of might.conspiracies From the birth of the USA everything in that country has been built under conspiracy, the same as the creation of the jewish state. Both of these countries are the two side of a coin, you make a perfect match with your hostile policies, without knowing the consequences. . This is: sow with one hand and rip with the other!
Do not worry about it, your country administration is sending thousands of its evangelical missionary soldiers all over the world, spoiling and spitting on every single native culture and religion, be them orthodox, hindu, buddist or molsems.
It is your country which meddles into the balkans, building a huge army base in the foreign soil, in this case, Kosmet/Srbija.
Terrorism my a.rse, who finances the terrorism? Who creates it? Which is the only country in the world that this planet does not feel in Peace from?
Your government thought well by opening another frontline for war(after the fall of the communism) but has not calculated well outcome. Your government is your own enemy and its foreign policy is a big threat to whole the american nation.
Balkanization means dividing everything into portions or more exactly pushing the knives into every single part of a country.
Balkanization.....that is what your country is doing all over world with soldiers and missionaries, you try it on us but, have you ever thought what about trying it on your own soil?
Balkanization is the product of the americanism brought to us by your army and its Zionist christian evangelists, the dogs of God.

Uhm, wow suart... good job on trying to scare away the "scahwie amerikan".
No actually, it's an elite group of people (ie international bankers, oil billionaires, Rupert Murdoch, etc) determined to stay in power by keeping everything divided and confused. It just so happens that America is their best tool for such a mission, George W is a bumbling idiot who is told what to do and does it... the American people don't have much to do with it since it's not their fault they're brainwashed by Fox and Republicans.

US sucks...one question Frank, have u been in EU?
EU is the next hyperpower. US is going down man, change your $ into € if you don't want to loose all your fortune...if you have one and you didn't lost it in Irak.
EU is pretty tough, don't expect praise about US in EU. We're gonna take your crown and be the decision maker of the world.

another aspect, you as an "American" you don't exist. What are your ancestors? ?? In EU you can find the history, civilization, culture...go to Paris, Rome...it's something you with your 2$ burgers will never achieve...EU is the greatest culture, next hyperpower, cultural civilization. You have no history, Paris during the WWI and WWII was the capital of the world, because by that time still, Europe was the world...EU is growing now, 500 millions compared with you 300, we are far more developed and standard of living is higher. We have free education, good health systems, AIRBUS technology, NOKIA phones...best cars ever, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes...what do you have?? McDonnalds and Coke subculture...no thanks,,,take care and be aware Romanias are the best in software in the world

we are far better then Indians Romania is one of the fastest-growing information technology (IT) markets in Central and Eastern Europe. The country has made significant progress in all of the information and communications technology (ICT) subsectors, including basic telephony, mobile telephony, the Internet and IT. The country’s telecoms sector has been deregulated, expanded and modernised over the past 15 years. [51] Romania is the leader in Europe, and sixth in the world, in terms of the number of certified IT specialists, with density rates per 1,000 inhabitants greater than in the US or Russia. There are about 64,000 specialists in the IT sector. Approximately 5,000 of the 30,000 engineers graduating every year in Romania are trained in ICT. [52] Microsoft acquired Romanian Antivirus Technology in 2003. According to Microsoft, Romania has a clear potential in information technology, an area in which Romanian students, researchers and entrepreneurs excel. [53] Its western-oriented culture and the high educational degree of its youth bring Romania forward as a huge potential market (the second largest software producer in Eastern Europe). In terms of IT outsourcing services Romania is ranked in the third place worldwide successfully challenging India. globaltechforum.eiu.com/index.asp?layout=rich_story&doc_id=9234&categoryid=&channelid=&search=romaniaantivirus.about.com/library/weekly/aa061103a.htmnews.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-5074725.html

I totally agree with you . Our foreign policy has been horrible for the last half century or so . This is a major contributer to the events of 9/11 .
Again I agree with you for the most part . No one can deny the genocide commited against the native americans and it is a dark point in American history as was Slavery , the Jim Crow laws , the blatent violation of the constitution by both democrats and neocons ( see- entangling alliances and Iraq War) . It is something we should be particularly aware of and we need to come to terms with this .
I cannot fail to see the logic in your words but be careful for a second . Indeed, Democracy cannot be implimented through the barral of a gun and to be truthful , we Americans have no business involving ourselves in entangling alliances in other countries affairs . Our military , according to the constitution , is there for OUR national defense , not the defense of others and certainly not as an invasion force . I equally with you oppose the use of unconstitutional and hence unlawful use of American forces in places where they do not belong . However , it is not the ALL the American people to blame it is the shady politicians which hijacked our country and scared the people with fear that are the main perpetrators .
What I teach my children is about America's founding fathers and the wisdom of the constitution ( which is not followed today by the majority of either main party ) . Our founding fathers wrote our constitution ( and declaration of independence) for a reason and that reason was exactly to avoid what is happening in this country today .
- No big government - Government should fear the people , not the people fear the government . - No income tax - No entangling alliances - The rule of law is the constitution - Citizens have LIBERTIES . - too many things to ennumarate right now
" Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither " - Ben Franklin .
All of this is dissapearing before our eyes because the American politicians have lost their way since the days proceeding Eisenhower . The people are disenchanted and brainwashed . We run a wellfare state within the incompetent machinary of a big federal government .
I disagree with your view about the inception of the United States . I must leave for now but we will continue this .
Thanks for your responses Suart .

I can say one thing that in my opinion summarizes what american politics is and how ignorant their citizens are. During the bombardment on Serbia, about 75% of the americans considered Kosovo to be a gas station. No further comment needed.

Superman: if you don't visit by yourself Romania you lost the chance to have your life changed. Go now to buy a ticket for delta airlines go and stay for 2 weeks in Romania, it will change your life for ever. That's my only advice for you Man, I was laughing so much.... it reminds me the last year's new movie: the island. You are great ;D ;D for promoting the wild scape of Romania, weldone!
At the end, RuseBG:
Good point! I bet they do not know anything at all. All they live and think is dreaming of a celebrity life, all they give on the news is, P Hilton an B Spears. Do they ever (ABC, Fox etc) apart of the celebrities' life, give other parts of the social life in the world?
All american import is expensive live of celebrities with low moral, as for export, they do on the junk food and filthy morals and attitude, by bombs and missionaries.
THey forget that as eastern europeans, our Pride and family values are more important for us thus, they stand above everything.
We are the sons of the mothers whom tried to be good wives and the make the best of the bests amongst other women, our mothers did not try to be celebrities but good provider with family gratitude.
That is what the yanks and West do not have and lack of.
As Superman says and with his own words I repeat to every yank:
if you don't visit by yourself Balkans you lost the chance to have your life changed. Go now to buy a ticket for delta airlines go and stay ******

We should also note that they left England because they wanted control of a country, and to get rich... they are only humans.
The declaration of independence was "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of wealth".
