The flag waiving...usually in these kind of parties the patriotism is in considerable levels, but the waiving of the flag wasn't something that was programed before, it was mostly the kids playing around and waiving the flag.
100 years ago was held a big meeting which is known as The Congress of Manastir from Albanians from all the parts of Albania, even diaspora, and agreed to use the latin alphabet for the albanian language. Before that greek, arabic, slavic and latin alphabets were used...

Actually, much of the influence of the Turkish alphabet came from the istanbul alphabet, which was composed by Sami Frasheri for the Albanian language. Sami was also a sort of "Turkologist" and published a number of journal articles, novels and other works on/in the Turkish language and composed a dictionary of Turkish without the various Arabic, French, Italian and Persian loanwords. This would also be an influence to the later language cleansing they did.
It was pretty interesting when I first read about it.
Before this there was a total of over 11 alphabets being used in Albanian...

Sami is the brother of Naim Frasheri our national linguist born in a village some kilometers away from my mothers birth place.

I know Mendor. I really want to get Mbajtja e Fjalës to read. From the synopsis I read a while back it sounds like a great play.
