I'm pretty sure his mother is Serbian which would make him only half Croat. If I remember correctly his dad left them early & he was only raised by his mother as well. Bugger all compared to the amount of Serbs who've represented Croatia.

He's been quoted by a Croatian newspaper that only his dads mum is Croatian. www.jutarnji.hr/clanak/art-2006,12,29,,56310.jl ZAGREB - Antonio Rukavina, srpski nogometaš koji æe s prvim danima prijelaznog roka staviti svoj autogram na ugovor s Partizanom, progovorio je o najnovijoj akutalnosti glede njegova moguæeg nastupa za reprezentaciju Hrvatske, s obzirom na to da je, prema informacijama koje je objavio Jutarnji list, Rukavina zemunski Hrvat. - Moram razoèarati sve u rukovodstvu HNS-a.

Tyson you should have researched a little better before coming on and trying to claim another Serb as Croatian ahahaha. Get your own history.......
Anyways i was also interested in finding out about him when i heard his last name, so i made a thread about it ages ago. Anyways Schonic posted some links were he talks about being Serb, and how his dad is a very religious Orthodox Christian. He probly has some Croat heritage though.......but Croatia used Prosinecki, Rapaic, Prso and Balaban who were all to some degree Serb aswell. Its just how it works in the Balkans. Serbia also has Adem Ljajic (A Muslim) and Sulejmani (A Gorani) playing for us, so yeah.

Doesnt really matter if a person is part Croat anyway, its what they feel. Some of my cousins that are 1/2 Croat or 1/4 Croat hate Croats themselves and are the biggest diehard Cetniks lol. But thats mostly because their Croatian side of the family disowned them and their Croatian neighbours turned on them in the 90's.

It's all about history and it is something that Croats do not have therefore they are trying to steal and claim other nations history instead. Something what the FYROMS are trying to do the same by stealing Greek history and claiming it as their own. Bunch of jealous Croats.
First Tesla, then Djokovic, Marko Polo and now Rukavina ?? Who else is next on the list. Might aswell say that Albert Einstein was Croatian aswell.

Maybe the surname is Croatian, but he obviously isn't. Think of Josip Strossmayer. The guy was Croatian despite having a German surname. Or of all the Croats with the surname Popovic. You also have a lot of Muslims who kept their pre-conversion surnames.
Actually, even distinguishing last names as either Serbian or Croatian is fraught with uncertainty. The languages are so similar and the peoples so proximate to each other that it is only logical for there to also exist similar surnames and names. Case in point, Marko from Rijeka and I share the same name, but are different nationalities. Both of our descendants could end up having the last names Markovic. Which is Croatian or Serbian then? ;D
