At least five people have been killed, and dozens injured in a series of separate accidents and incidents across Bosnia during the Muslim holiday of Eid Al Adha, or Kurban Bajram.
Three young men were killed and five more injured in a car crash in the southern Bosnian town of Mostar late last night, local media reported on Tuesday.
A few hours later one teenager was stabbed to death in the central Bosnian town of Zenica. In the same town on Monday, one man was killed and another seriously injured in a shootout that is believed to be linked to clash between local criminal groups.
In a similarly-motivated shootout, two men were seriously injured late Sunday in the northern Bosnian town of Tuzla. While the two men are still fighting for their lives in the Tuzla hospital, local police has identified perpetrators and are searching for them across the region.
Meanwhile, in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo one teenager was stabbed and is in a critical condition, while six other teenagers were injured in two separate street fights which took place late Monday.
Yet the biggest public outcry have been triggered by a fire which on Sunday night which razed a local mosque in the eastern Bosnian village of Fazlagica Kula, almost to the ground.
The fire was noticed only hours ahead of the beginning of prayers for the Muslim holiday of Kurban Bajram. The village is located in the southeastern part of the Serb-dominated entity of Republika Srpska, near the town of Trebinje. The village and the mosque were completely devastated during Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war.
Although the investigation into this incident is still ongoing and the cause for the fire is still not known, Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) officials reacted strongly, saying the incident was a blow to reconciliation and the return of refugees.
Bosnian Serb leadership expressed their regret and concerns, and pledged to swiftly indentify the cause for the fire and eventual culprits
