Hungary hopes for better bilateral ties
THE embassy of Hungary has expressed the hope that bilateral relations between Qatar and Hungary would flourish in the coming years.
Head of trade section of Doha’s Hungarian mission and charge de affaires Szabolcs Takacs said yesterday that though Hungary started a mission in Qatar only five years ago, Qatar has been showing keen interest in developing relations with Hungary. “This is more evident from the interest being shown by Qatari nationals and other residents in travelling to Hungary,” he said.
Takacs said until last month, more than 200 Qatari nationals visited Qatar for tourist and other purposes. “The number is bound to grow in coming years as people here show more interest in learning about Hungary, he said.
Ministerial delegations from Hungary have visited Qatar in the last couple of years and most Hungarians living in Qatar are employed as professionals in various sectors. Among them are faculty members at universities at Educational City, engineers with number of consultancies and other sectors.
The official said the embassy is issuing Schengen visas and a number of Qatari nationals are availing of it to travel to the EU countries, in particular to Hungary.
Takacs said Hungary was promoting spa and health tourism in a big way and has attracted a large number of Arabs in the past few years.
The official said though only a few more than a couple of hundreds of Hungarians were living in Qatar at present, a number of top Qatari institutions have expressed their desire in seeking the Hungarians’ services in respective fields.
The official said with the opening of Qatar Science and Technology Park to its complete potential, Hungarian professionals in various streams of science and IT would be finding opportunities to demonstrate their expertise.
The official said the trade volume between the two countries stood at 30mn euros last year, it is expected to grow considerably in the next couple of years. “This is in view of increasing imports in Qatar of machinery, oil and gas equipment, food stuff and electrical goods from Hungary,” he pointed out.
Takacs said co-operation between Qatar and Hungary in the energy sector is bound to grow in coming years and talks have already been held in this regard.
