I personally think that there is a lot of truth stated there from my own experience. It appears that the more ones emotions are involved (but as long as there is some clarity involved) that more the likelihood that such a person might resort to believing in the divine (if only for that given moment). Lets see them;
Arguing with someone ....................................... 0% -High emotions but lack of clarity.
Running late to work ......................................... 20% -High emotions and clarity (hope to come on time)
Christmas ........................................................... 40% -High emotions and more clarity (family and cultural impact catching you possibly at the weakest annual point)
Being Followed by Police .................................... 60% -High emotions and strong clarity (Hope and clarity to avoid being arrested)
Didn't study for exam .......................................... 80% -High emotions and stronger clarity (Hope and clarity to pass the exam)
Watching sports...................................................100% - High emotions and strongest clarity (Hope and clarity for your team to win the competition)

PS: Now what exactly is the reason Ilir that you regard above as BS, anything specific.

What kind of belief is it? Is it like "god help me I want this team to win. And the emotions while watching a sports game and not much different from those in an argument.

Argument can happen fast and it represents purest emotion out of all those above examples and its one with least planning and least clarity.
Sports game is very different as it is an anticipated event and you might have preordained favorite that you might want to win badly.

I have no such emotions you people think you are atheists but you are not it just seems like a "cool" idea. Which I think its a prerequisite to becoming a fully atheistic human. Saying in your mind that you "hope" your favorite team to win it means you still are in a transitional stage to becoming a real atheist which I once was a couple years ago and at that time there still were some stuff which could shake my beliefs because of my ignorance on many subjects but the more I studied including taking a couple of philosophy and sociology of religion classes I became a true atheist.

Argument can happen fast and it represents purest emotion out of all those above examples and its one with least planning and least clarity. Sports game is very different as it is an anticipated event and you might have preordained favorite that you might want to win badly. Its just tension and the level of clarity in either depends on the person. I know that if my uncle is watching a soccer game if I dare distract him he just throws a yell "shut up!" or if I cheer for another teem his tension gets directed towards me, same as in an argument. Because its slower doesnt mean there is necessarily more clarity. Its just that arguments are personal and dont need the touch of the divine to move them forward. We simply wouldnt need a god to help us argue since its our own intellect at work.
