Elena’s ‘Horses’ going to London
Drawing of a girl from Serbia in ‘Tate’ Gallery

When little Elena started drawing ‘Horses’ she told her dad Dusan: ‘As soon as I finish this drawing I shall travel to London!’. She was right since the international jury chosen her drawing as the best one to represent Serbia at the exhibition in London.
The ‘Horses’ shall be exhibited at the ‘Tate Modern’ Gallery on March 26. Elena has already started preparing herself for the journey and is looking forward to meeting the children from all parts of the world.
At the age of four Elena made herself a booklet and illustrated it. Her notebooks are full with drawings but the most frequent in them are horses.
‘I like horses and dogs the most’, the girl says.
Elena Karanfilovic is the pupil of the first grade of the ‘King Peter I’ compulsory school. She likes to draw, but more than that to play. Her mother is a painter.
‘When we learned about the competition at her school, I talked with Elena and her sister. I explained to them what the ‘Beauty of Diversity’ means. Then they presented their ideas and started drawing’, the proud mom says. Elena’s sister participated with her drawing, too.
‘As a parent I cannot be impartial, but they are really good and modest children’, dad Dusan says.
‘I have already traveled by plane but to Montenegro only and now I shall travel to London. I have my passport’, Elena says.
‘Beauty of Diversity’
At the international school art competition of ‘Unilever’ Co. more than 2,250 children from Serbia took part, including physically disabled children and children of the Safe House. Their task was to express by their drawings how they understood the ‘Beauty of Diversity’.
