Alb1234, yeah yeah I know that non-religious trend that is described by US reports... but the burning of Christian churches in Kossovo, the harashment of archibishop Anastasios and some hugs with the Turkish culture makes me see the other way too..
Nevertheles that is not the problem. The problem is to associate with people who have the same way of behavior like you do. The first generation Albanians I met were people tottaly different from me. Maybe it was the isolation of Albania, maybe because the vast majority of the people were peasants from even more isolated villages with their own "trends" and rules etc etc .. For sure the Bulgarians and the Serbians that I have met until then were... lets say... much more "cool" people despite the fact that Commounism was present in their countries too. Maybe its not the religion as I said.. but for sure it has played its role in the final formal of behavior.
The second generation of Albanians for sure have nothing to do with the first... but the second generation of Albanians in Greece.. as far as it concerns the ones I have met... are not Muslims or dont practice Muslim religion.. and for sure they have not grown up in an isolated village with their own rules (ex. cannun) etc. The next 30-50 years, when the third generation comes, the picture will get clear.
For the present I see Bulgarians and ex-Yougoslavians more comfortable with the Greek lifestyle... means.. with me.
My personal belief is that sooner of later there will be no differentiation in behavior among the Balkanians the future years. Hopefully...

Koecabre "I dont think the majority of Albanians give a s**t what Greeks think about them so its not necessary to explain about our Atheism/Agnostism" ---------------------------------------------------------------- I believe you give a sh.it... "Vasil/Vaskë ur reasoning for chosing friends sounds typically Gayreek. i think u just embarrased Serbs and Bulgarians...i dont think ANY straight man (Serb, Albanian, or Bulgarian) choses thier friends because they want to have threesomes with them. lol" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- an exreme example that as it seems makes you feel uncomfortable as an Albanian..right? That is what I was talking about. Get out of your village... visit some clubs and beach bars... do some drugs... live for some period on the edge... and then you'll make me feel comfortable By the way... what better start for a friendship after sharing a beautifull and drunk girl? Thats the Balkanian way of doing business! lol lol Use your fantasy bre. Leave the rules of your tribe behind for a moment. Cool down.. "Fail." ------- depends from the beauty of the girl and how drunk I am....

Sittlichkeit the trouth is... that for unidentified reasons... I like the Albanians. Is it because I got used of them and I find them picturosque... is it because that deep in my mind I find them as an ex-Hellenic tribe... is it because I feel pity for them like I felt pity for all Greek immigrants who had to mass-imigrate all over the world.... is it because i remember the first Albanians comming in Greece during Hotza era and how Greek people felt and supported them with food/clothes etc..... I really dont know... ? Maybe I need to see a shrink. But for sure, everytime I'm in the web... and I meet guys like you... that "Turkalbanian/Balli-Competar" think comes all over my mind. Now what I dont now is.... more Albanians are like you or more Albanians are like the ones I've met here in Greece? That is my question to myself that I cannot answer..

"But for sure, everytime I'm in the web... and I meet guys like you... that "Turkalbanian/Balli-Competar" think comes all over my mind."
and why should we adhere to what your image of what an albanian should be like according to you?
that's a little arrogant, you do not think we have stereotypical views of greeks from our side? you're supposed to just accept people and different views, i don't really agree with what my compatriot is saying but that's the beauty of it, you do not have to agree.

Regardless if we like something or not... there is a collective image for countries and nations. For example you will say "Greeks like feta cheese". Thats a sterotype and I'm sure many people in Greece dont like cheese. But that sterotype exists because 90% like feta. I know its not fair for the non-feta eaters... but thats it when it comes to sterotypes. Usually stereotypes dont fail... So you better start eating feta so as to be part of the big group.. Now in our case.... I dont know if Sittlichkeit and guys like him represent the 90% feta eaters in Albania or the other group.... the small one.

I dont give a s**t whether u like us or not Basil, I wasnt posting in reference to you. Im quite comfortable with who you like or dislike and feel no need to be so, I havnt posted here until now... I was posting in reference to the trash who feels the need to argue himself into being accepted. Especially by a people who are historically an enemy and remain one of the most disliked in the country... (arguably on par if not more so than Serbs depending on where)

Sittlichkeit "I was posting in reference to the trash who feels the need to argue himself into being accepted." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is why all the talk is about... Who needs to be accepted..? If Albanians are like you.. then he needs to be accepted. If Albanians are like him... hm... then you need to be accepted...
In other words,... are you a minority or a majority in Albania....? Guys like Korcar are the majority or the Turkalbanians like you?

Usually stereotypes dont fail... i get your point, i too tend to pay stereotypes particular attention, but there's a distinction in the severity between stereotypes of the nature 'albanians are stubborn people' and 'turkoalvanos', now you are crossing over into insults....that's on the same par as us saying greeks are 'gay', there are different level of stereotypes. by enlarge stereotypes are quite solid guidelines when it comes to dealing with people, i'll give you an example, in albania the region of 'Gjirokastra' is known to be a 'stingy' or 'tight fisted' place and there are plenty of jokes dating back ages about how they don't spend money or don't really do many acts of generosity, now i didn't really pay much of a thought to that until i met a couple of gjirokastrites and i instantly thought back on all the stereotypes i had heard, i mean these guys were smth else, i had heard of stingy but they redefined the term. No offence to anyone from gjirokastra, i'm sure people there are not all like that but as the old saying goes ...there no smoke without fire ;D

Non of them seem to be gay or at least admits he is a gay. So there is a 100% potential fail of the sterotype. Also in our forum there are many Albanians too. 60% of them seem to act as Turkalbanians and they admitt it through their posts. (to clarify the term.. is the Muslim Ablanian with innate hate for Greece and an eternal love for Turkey or Ottoman Empire) and 40% simple as Albanians.
So we have to justify our stereotypes and not just talking. The stereotype about Greece stems from ancient Greece. The stereotype about Albania stems from modern Albania.
For example gay population can be seen in huge number in US and UK in modern days. Not in Greece. So we have a wrong stereotype in our case. An Albanian Muslim who loves Turkey and hates Greece can be seen in 15th century up to today in our forum. So we have a right stereotype. A modern one.

Talking about the 2 sterotypes there is a small diference; In our forum there are many Greeks. Non of them seem to be gay or at least admits he is a gay. So there is a 100% potential fail of the sterotype. that's not accurate at all, and i am baffled at your logic...you're basicly saying all the stereotypes towards greeks are unfounded whereas all the stereotypes towards albs are entirely justifed by your statistics in this message board based on your carefully calculated percentages, wow, i've been to athens and it is riddled with gay people ok? i mean, it was just astounding how many of them were there, i am left speechless at the idea that this message board is a fair cross section of society for each of our countries. you seem to associate our distaste for greece with us being turkish? if you have an inherent dislike for greeks than by default you are a turk, how does the muslim thing come into play again? i just can't my head around how you guy reason at all, i am christian i do not think highly of greeks, am i a turkoalvanos? who admits what though their posts? Sittlichkeit is the only one that shows some mild fascination with ottoman culture, what is to act as a turkoalbanian? i don't get it, greeks have plaegerised the entire turkish way of life from food to music to customs and you call us that? that's audacious, but there you go. right, here we go, always an excuse, again you come out looking like you are god's chosen ones...why do you take so much pride in ancient greeks then, why do you regard yourself as the proud successors of the ancient ones? i've seen it with my own eyes, no need to tell me. stereotypes are all wrong mate, not saying all greeks are gay or as albanians view them as backstabbers and untrustworthy, that's the point i am trying to get across here, what you are saying is OUR stereotypes are unfounded whereas yours are entire true. we all fought the ottomans, we emerged as the worse off country, no its not a correct stereotype if one or two people feel a certain affinity to islam because that's doesn't imply turkishness, islam is a religion not ethnicity and its not a turkish export. that's like saying, everyday i hear about a greek orthodox priest molesting kids or getting involved in a sex scandal therefore of greeks are sodomites...here we have a modern example of homozexuality and in the clergy at that, but you still can not define a nation by actions of these people.

What a shame.....the more I live, the more jaded I get. The above statement doesn't shock but depresses me. I wish people would bond in a more meaningful way...oh well. Saturday is Valentine's Day...and the 'innocent' or maybe complex female in me wants to share these two songs:
