DAR ES SALAAM -- U.S. President George Bush says he will work with his allies to avoid violence in Kosovo.
Bush, who was speaking during his visit to Tanzania, said that the Kosovo status issue has to be solved, "so that the Balkans region remains stable".
The U.S. president also expressed his satisfaction with the ethnic Albanian authorities' declared readiness to support the right of the Serbs in Kosovo.
"The U.S. will continue to cooperate with her allies to make sure there is no violence," Bush told reporters in Dar es Salaam.
However, he would not directly confirm that a recognition of Kosovo as an independent state will be a part of the foreign policy legacy of his administration.
Instead, the U.S. president said that his country has offered strong support for the Ahtisaari plan envisaging Kosovo's supervised independence, rejected at the UN last spring.
Washington and some major EU countries are expected to recognize the Kosovo Albanians' unilateral secession.
Bush added that he believes it is "in Serbia's interest to follow Europe". He went on to say that "the Serbian people can be sure they have a friend in the United States".

Let me tell you what this means. An unofficial recognition is all that Kosovo will recieve from the US because that is all that they have promised. They have never promised a UN seat because they cannot deliver one. The K-Albanians have now committed themselves to the Ahtisaari plan which can only be implemented in the south as the Serbs who control the North will obviously not recognise, as is their right not to. With the UN gone and the US making a dash under the cover of night, who will the K Albanians fight now? Will they try and blow up Russia because Russia refuses to rcognise Kosovo in the UN and the OSCE and many other International organisations. Vinjak, they have fallen into the biggest trap I have ever seen. If any foreign companies decide to invest, then thy deserve to lose their money for not being prudent enough.

I've always thought what will happen when they are left out in the cold unprotected.
Fends, l see what your saying, even the US cannot let this distroy the fundamentals of international law, they are trying everything just to get serbia to sign and recognise kosovo forcibily. This is only a friendly symbolic gesture and the best they can do unofficially!.

Kosova is on Independent country now, we don't care if they are going to pull the plug or not, not just U.S but all of them. We are free people now and if you want to take the freedom from us, come and take it.

So you should really care if the U.S. pulls the plug.

"If the U.S. pulls the plug, then no one else will recognize you. So you should really care if the U.S. pulls the plug." I'm not trying to pis you off, but im just trying to be realistic here; We have been living for thousands of years without any recognizing, so even if some country's don't recognize Kosova we will be just fine, and there for thousand more to come.
and this is why they are going to recognize Kosova...

Your 100% correct, why would they want to destroy something that they themselves introduced and preached about over the past 6 decades!.

OK Then you don't mind no UN seat, no CoE, no OSCE and no Olympics-- and under the EU Treaty (Constitution) only UN member states can join the EU.

Have you talked to the UN? How do you know that there is not going to be a UN seat? Couple of days ago you were saying that is not going to be on Independence, now you jump to UN seat. We will get there same as we got to this day.... hopefully when we get there you don't find something else.... maybe your going to say we still don't recognize you lol

Albanoi Your own people have said there will not be a UN seat, including Thachi, Kurti, Ceku and last night in the Financial Times Hamiti said it...
But it will not be the ringing endorsement the Albanians sought. Muhamet Hamiti, a senior Kosovo political adviser, admits: “Kosovo’s independence . . . will not be the ideal our leaders had in mind. Sometimes reality defeats you.”
As I stated elsewhere, the EU as a body and UN won't recognize Kosovo. This is a contract between individual countries and individual recognition is clearly something the main supporters for Kosovo's independence didn't want. They wanted UN and EU approval. This places direct responsibility for Kosovo's improvement squarely with the governments that recognize it. Kosovo handouts will come directly from Washington, London, and Berlin, rather than any international body. In the end there won't be an all important UN seat. Thachi is already crying about that. Kosovo Albanians can declare independence 100 times over, they will NEVER be recognized by the United Nations. Don't forget Albs already declared it in 1992 and they didn't get a seat either. It appears Serbia is going to get the best of both worlds in the Kosovo settlement. Russia and China will make sure that Kosovo is not-quite independent (that is, no U.N. seat or other institutions). Serbia will get de facto control of the Serbian municipalities and the religious enclaves. If they want Serbia in the EU, which they do, they will have to give Serbs what they want.

OK Then you don't mind no UN seat, no CoE, no OSCE and no Olympics-- and under the EU Treaty (Constitution) only UN member states can join the EU. I guess you missed this bulletin... THE International Olympic Committee is set to recognise newly independent Kosovo, although not in time for the Beijing Olympics. "There will be a recognition of Kosovo on the part of the IOC. I can announce this in advance,'' Mario Pescante, the president of the IOC's commission of international relations, said today. "But I don't think Kosovo would have the time to be represented at the Olympics in Beijing.'' Pescante said Kosovo has already submitted an application to join the IOC. Kosovo's parliament declared the province's independence from Serbia today, giving Europe a new nation and marking an historic turning point in the volatile Balkan region. Novi try it now...
