Greek Government on expatriates' voting rights. "We believe that the suggested solution is the best possible at the present time, and that everyone should contribute towards it being accepted," government spokesman Evangelos Antonaros stated on Thursday with regard to objections by the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) to a draft law granting voting rights in Greek national elections to eligible expatriates. Antonaros characterized the solution as transitional, pointing out that all necessary changes will be made along the way after the law is implemented, while he called on SAE to reconsider. "Reaching a consensus does not necessarily mean that it is the government that always has to back down," Antonaros said during his regular press briefing, while he underlined that the specific draft law is very important, as it allows Greek citizens living abroad to vote from their country of residence, thus avoiding trouble and expense of returning to Greece to cast one's vote. "I will not enter into an argument with an institutional body that expresses its opinions," Antonaros added. ♠ Courtesy of ANA-MPA www.phantis.com/news/?newsID=20090226111653

If you are not a resident of Greece 8 months of any given year you should not be able to vote on anything pertaining on Greek soil. You will only Vote the way your Church wants you to vote anyways.(waisted vote )
Leave the voting to the people that live and eat in Greece, don't worry we will not take your summer homes away or tax you too heavily on it .
BUT if we see fit that we need your homes with the fancy flushing toilets that you bring from the west including fancy lights we will simply vote and put economic suffering Greek families in them without warning .
You Can’t Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

some how expatriots should have a say in Greece. Of course not the final say since they dont live here... but somehow they should vote for a specific number of parliament seats. Their opinion counts. There must be a solution and I'm sure they will find it.

^^^^ This sounds funny to me. I would be appreciative of the right to vote in Greece but somehow I feel that I am not entitled since I do not reside there.
