Lajèak: Don’t use Srebrenica in campaign 10 May 2008 | 20:51 | Source: Beta SARAJEVO -- High Representative to Bosnia Miroslav Lajèak warned that country's politicians not to use the tragedy of the Srebrenica massacre "as a daily political tool".
"More than anything else, Srebrenica needs economic recovery for a sustainable return, because this is what will bring people back."
"Empty campaign rhetoric, that does not respect the Bosnia-Herzegovina constitution and plays with people's emotions for daily political purposes, not only won't bring people back to Srebrenica, but is dangerous and damaging to this entire country," Lajèak said in a statement released in Sarajevo.
The Slovak diplomat reminded that the Bosnian parties this week supported proposed amendments to a law regulating the election process in that country, "and in this way answered to the moral challenge of human tragedy and genocide in Srebrenica".
"After this important and good decisions, I wish to warn all political parties not to undermine their own responsibility and wisdom demonstrated in this process, by using irresponsible rhetoric, that utilizes Srebrenica as an election campaign tool," Lajèak said.
