BANJA LUKA, April 13 (FENA) – US diplomat and one of the makers of the Dayton Agreement Richard Holbrooke warned on Saturday night in Banja Luka that demands for secession of the RS, as well as the fact that Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic are still free, are burdening BiH development.
Holbrooke emphasized on Saturday night after a meeting with the RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik that three things need to be clear to all in BiH, all of them not allowed by the Dayton Agreement: independence of any of the entities, a third entity and elimination of any of the entities.
He emphasized that there are people who advocate one of the three options and that such attempts had been seen in Dayton.
He stated that the key problem lies in the fact that many aspects of the Dayton Agreement have not been implemented until today and that it is a fact that should be understood as worrying.
Holbrooke told the press that he is aware that the Dayton Agreement is not perfect and that there are many lacks in it. However, he added that the agreement can be amended through the procedure prescribed and through a consensus of all the three peoples.
US diplomat sees BiH in the EU because, he said, it is the simplest way for the country to realize its economic potentials and leave the past behind. He stated that nothing should stop BiH on the way to the EU and warned that certain individuals from the RS, who are advocating its independence, are a longterm disruption for BiH.
Commenting the issues related to the name of the RS, Holbrooke stated that the name of the entity “had been agreed two months prior to the signing of the Dayton Agreement, more precisely, in September in Ankara, when Alija Izetbegovic had agreed to the name”.
Holbrooke added that Milorad Dodik is representing another RS compared to the one created by the people in Pale in 1992. He is of the opinion that “it would be better if the name was different”.
”That is my personal opinion and I am not suggesting a change”, he said.
RS Prime Minister told Dodik that the RS’s attitude is that the Dayton Agreement should be implemented, as well as the EU perspective of BiH. However, he emphasized that “RS is also decisive more than ever to ask for a clear position of the entity within BiH”.
”Today, RS is in almost every aspect a more stabile and more prosperous part of BiH and has almost completely implemented the property laws, that it, returned the property to the pre-war owners. As such, it guarantees full safety to its citizens”, Dodik emphasized.
Holbrooke met in Sarajevo on Friday with BiH Presidency Chair Haris Silajdzic and member of BiH Presidency Zeljko Komsic, as well as with other officials and political parties’ representatives.
