VS, NATO to discuss Kumanovo revision 28 November 2008 Serbian Army (VS) Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Zdravko Ponoš has agreed to hold expert talks with NATO and KFOR officials on revision of the Kumanovo Agreement.
"Basically, the security constellation on the ground has changed, and that’s the reason why the Kumanovo Agreement needs to be revised” given the reality of the situation, he said.
Ponoš met in Naples with the Commander of NATO Joint Forces Mark Fitzgerald to discuss security in Kosovo.
"This meeting is a resumption of last week’s talks with NATO Commander for Europe General John Craddock,” he said. The VS chief-of-staff said that the topic of the discussion had been the same—security in Kosovo.
"This time the UN Security Council has supported Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s report in light of the new facts,” he said.
"We have already learnt of the formation of the so-called Kosovo Security Forces with KFOR’s participation, which we object to,” Ponoš said.
Representatives of the Yugoslav Army (VJ) and NATO signed a Military-Technical Agreement on the VJ and Serbian police’s withdrawal from Kosovo in Kumanovo on June 9, 1999, which brought an end to the NATO air strikes and led to the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
