Rumors rife of Kosovo Serb assembly 9 February 2008 A Kosovo Serb assembly will be formed on February 15 in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, says Priština daily Zeri.
The move is an initiative conceived by Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica and Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardžiæ.
“That way, Koštunica and Samardžiæ would finalize the plan to create a separate political and territorial Serb entity with special links to Serbia,“ says Zeri.
The daily reiterates that such an initiative was presented at the start of the Vienna talks in February 2006.
Albanian leaders in Priština vehemently oppose the plan.
“That sort of assembly would not be legal and would not represent the citizens of Kosovo. No other institutions, save those elected by the free will of the citizens is legitimate in Kosovo,“ said Xhavit Beqiri, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu’s spokesman.
Beqiri added that “no Kosovo Serb assembly, anywhere in Kosovo, can help the citizens of Kosovo, not even the Serbs.“
The president’s spokesman repeated the Kosovo institutions’ call to the Serbs to become an active part of the province’s social and political life.
Zeri says that the UN administration reacted when Samardžiæ opened a Serbian Kosovo Ministry office in northern Mitrovica.
UNMIK does not wish to comment on the possible formation of a Kosovo Serb assembly, and is waiting for instructions from New York.
“We won’t comment on anything that has not yet happened. We need to wait and see how things develop in the future,“ UNMIK spokesman Alexander Ivanko told Zeri.

Hardly Feb 18th would be a better day to announce that. ;D You know whats funny, the UN by all accounts will not step in to prevent it as it would transgress resolution 1244. Pristina have no control over the North and do you know whats really interesting, Serbia didn't need to ask permission to set up a parrallel government as its a part of their souverign territory. Unlike your kind that needs the nod of the US at every turn.

Pejoni, in case you didnt notice the ppl of PreshevO (as is written on the signs of the road) are loyal citizens of serbia and live in much better conditions than the poor alb kosovars. Dont count on them to play the mafia games of a small minority in Pristhina.
