Albania and Croatia to build NPP The prime ministers of Albania and Croatia are due to sign an agreement by the end of April on joint construction of a nuclear power plant in the vicinity of the Albanian city of Skadar. The entire project is estimated to be worth about 4 billion euros, while the capacity of the power plant is 1,500 MW. The Croatian Power Distribution Utility is in charge of construction works, whereas the majority of the power is due to be supplied to Croatia, according to media reports. The Montenegrin authorities said they received no offer to take part in the project of building a nuclear power plant on the piece of the Skadar Lake's coastline falling within its territory. The Montenegrin Ministry of Tourism and Environment reminded that the law prohibiting construction of nuclear power facility has been in force since 1995.

So let me get this straight. Croatia will build it, and it will provide most of the power to Croatia, BUT, it will be built in Northern Albania? Someone was real high when they thought of that plan LoL.

Don't worry, Albanians are getting something out of it too.

Jesus Christ, that would ruin tourism! Skadar is a beautiful lake with so much tourist potential, and the Montenegrin and Albanian coasts are nearby too.
What the heck are the Albanians thinking! They must be just happy with creating some jobs to build this for Croatia.

www.idividi.com.mk/English/World/521184/index.htmlMacedonian media says that only "a bulk of the energy will go to Croatia". The rest will probably go to Albania. Im still not sure if this is a good idea and what are its environmental impacts. We know the Balkan region businesses and households are suffering as a result of energy shortages.

I think that they should all rethink this. Until both governments are in the EU, they shouldn't do this, as they cannot regulate waste disposal properly. Government Corruption runs too high.

nuclear power is clean, efficient, and the chances that there will be an accident are small..
anyways, this is good news....

Good.. but I'm still wondering why its being built in Albania if Croatia will get most of its energy. A 4B USD program better be worth the trouble for both nations. One nuke plant has enough energy to power both nations, and export plenty more of it (Get an income out of it).

I'm just saying, we in the Balkans need to get more power, to this day Serbia, BiH.. RH Albania all run on gas...... Thats why I'm happy about this..... Bosnia and Serbia also need power power plants ASAP... If for some reason gas is cut, when russia and the west are pissed at each other, ultimatly we get fucked... the central european nations take the gas heading for the balkans, and we are elft freazing...

Albania doessn't use gas so the Russian-Ukrainin-Caucasus messes don't affect us . However there are multibillon projects that'll introduce the gas system. We need lots of electric energy though. Demand has been sharply rising and will keep doing so
We don't know much of this plan so there's nothing to say for now. neither Snader nor Berisha are transparent figures.

People can debate whether Nuclear Power is clean, efficient and accident-free LOL
What's not open to debate is that the United States and the most of the developed world are phasing out nuclear power plants. What's also not open to debate is that tourists are not gonna swim or vacation anywhere near a power plant. And should an even minor accident happen and there be some haphazard waste disposal they will NEVER come.
Geez, I sailed in Skadar Lake a couple of times while in Montenegro. I can't see myself doing it ever again if there is a nuclear power plant close to it. I mean, that's just human mentality, people are mistrustful of nuclear power plants (especially in the hands of Balkanians).

^ True. Even if they do decide to actually follow through with it, its the last thing Croatia needs to do is spend more money.

Svet Zagreb: Nema dogovora o nuklearki sa Albancima Autor: Beta | 17.04.2009. - 16:16

Nasa will also build their first Aerospace project in the balcans.. The location will be Albania.. Kosovo will provide the material necesery.. It's a fuckin financial crisis if u didnt notice.. And u are blabering about some NPP that aint gona be build in the nearest 150 years.. And even then its a question if it would be in albania.. Well just build more bunkers so people can have protection if something happens to the npp.. If Croatia would want a NPP why in the hell would they build it in Albania. Every country in world is trying to improve its energy suplys and here we are talking about building npp.. Just look at the coast of Cro.. Theres something like this if u guys didnt know..
