Croatia 'one of world's cleanest nations' 20 April 2009 Croatia has been singled out as one of the cleanest nations on the planet by Forbes magazine. In a recent feature, the internationally renowned publication compared the Adriatic country to European neighbours such as Switzerland and Sweden in the environmental stakes. Forbes specifically highlighted Croatia's beaches, which are hugely popular with tourists across the world, as being a major attraction. The article's author, Andy Stone, wrote: "Croatia recognises the value of tourism and makes clean beaches a priority." Mr Stone also alluded to the quality of the nation's cuisine by suggesting Croatia offered some of the region's best fish. "The country, which lies across the Adriatic Sea from Italy, offers visitors ample, healthy fishing stocks." Overall, the US magazine ranked Croatia as the cleanest country in eastern Europe and central Asia. Earlier this month, the daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija reported that the country's tourist season had got off to a spectacular start, according to the Croatian Times. www.croatianvillas.com/Holiday/news/Croatia-one-of-worlds-cleanest-nations-22-19129627.html

I didn't quite think so after seeing Sisak, but I guess things change in a couple of years.

I have been to 10 or so countries in Europe (most in central and west but also Croatia and Bosna). Croatia is far cleaner than any I have been to and that includes France and Germany...

Frances is dirty, especially Paris. I couldn't figure out what smelled so bad. I don't know about Germany, when I was there (Hamburg, Berlin, Munchen, Stuttgart) it was pretty clean.

Yes it was the dirtiest of them all! Didn't like Rome , not just because of that...it was like a love/hate relationship there...I felt much better in Florence.

I've been to Germany, and I have to say, that from my experience in being to 9 different cities/towns, its cleaner than Croatia.

Yeah, that's what I wrote. The people there have the conscious to pick up trash on the sidewalk and put it into a garbage disposal.

Meh. European standards are generally higher than the rest of the world. None of you should go to India because you'll be shocked.
