While I was watching some of participants in Eurovision Song Contest Belgrade 2008 I noticed the BH will be represented by Elvir Lakic Laka and Mirela. Both names Elvir and Mirela are widly used in Albania in 70s and 80s. In elementary school in a city in southeast of Albania only in my class there were three girls named Mirela. I have always thought that it is an Albanian name. MIRE in albanian means GOOD. So I wanted to know if this name means sth in your language, is it widly used as it is in Albania. Excuse my ingorance on the matter. Thank you to anyone with answers.

This is what I found:
Mirela: Romanian form of French Mireille meaning "to admire."

ela derives from the turkish word "Gel" for Come
Bosnians used to say "Ela" instead of "Dodje" during ottoman times, similar to how bulgarians still do.
The name is not latin...

Mirela is the kind of name mixed couples (where one of the parents was Muslim and the other Christian) gave to their kids... it's not a real Muslim name I think, but real Serbs or Croats rarely (if ever) gave their kids such a name
Miralem is clearly a Muslim name, with Arabic origins
