Suspected swine flu case in Serbia 30 April 2009 | 13:37 | Source: FoNet, Tanjug BELGRADE -- The Vojvodina Clinical Center in Novi Sad has admitted a patient with symptoms resembling those of swine flu, says Health Minister Tomica Milosavljeviæ.

There are concerns that the 71-year-old patient could have contracted the virus after returning home from the U.S. two days ago, said Milosavljeviæ.
Blood samples taken from the patient have been sent to the Torlak medical institute, and the preliminary results will be known by the end of the day, said the minister during a visit to the Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases in Belgrade.

The woman taken in for tests in Novi Sad has not contracted swine ‘flu, doctors have confirmed.
Vojvodina Clinical Center spokeswoman Gordana Umiæeviæ confirmed that the women had not been infected with the new H1N1 flu virus.
Umiæeviæ said that the woman had recently returned from Texas, where cases of the ‘flu have been reported, so she wanted to be tested.
The tests confirmed that the woman was not suffering from swine ‘flu, which has taken several lives in Mexico and the U.S.
Health Minister Tomica Milosavljeviæ said earlier that one woman had been admitted to the Vojvodina Clinical Centre exhibiting symptoms that could be those of swine flu.
The patient was a 71-year-old women who arrived in Serbia from the U.S. several days ago, Milosavljeviæ said while visiting the Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases in Belgrade.
