As early as the 1940s, the Mexican government invited Greek immigrants to Sinaloa to improve the harvest of olives. Soon the Greek community became so large that the area around the Tamazula, Humaya, and Culiacan rivers became known as the Valley of Greece (Spanish: Valle de Grecia). Most immigrants to Sinaloa married into Mexican families. Today, Sinaloa has a heavy Greek presence, and the cities of Culiacan and Guamuchil have important Greek communities. Many of the families came from Cyprus and other mainland Greek immigrants, and after sending letters to their friends and families about how well they were making it, more came. Greek surnames are very common in this state. In Culiacan, there is the Comunidad Helenica of Culiacan.
There is a story coming out of Sinloa... the girls there there are so beautiful because of the Greek mixture..... the drug lords from all over Mexico go there to find their queens.

Sofía Stamatiades (born on June 9, 1987 in Puebla, Mexico) is a Mexican actress. She has worked in a few TV Azteca produced serials. www.sofiastamatiades.com/There is an interview in spanish on her site but i did not find nothing in the interview about her being greek. Seems to be a smart girl. She lives in Miami now and is an us citizen.

Yeah that really funny. Once I was watching a documentary for Tazmania (I think thats the name of the small island south of Australia)... and the camera got into... a Greek Cafe... lol lol . Six members are the Greek community there! lol lol.. They have a Cultural club too! lol lol One more time, a friend of me who was working in Sillicon Valey he told me a story. He left his job to go for a 3 day visit to a near town. He had to pass through a desert with his car. After hours of driving, he suddenly saw a very cheap and ready to collapse restaurant in the middle of nowhere. He stops there to have some food. Ofcourse it was tottaly empty. A Mexican girl comes to take an order holding one kid in her arms and other 3-4 were running around her. She said "Only burgers and ommelets". After my friend ordered.. she came again and said "I listened to you talking. Are you Greek because my husband is Greek too?" . And then.. her husband got out from the kitchen and the sat together for a frappe. The question is... WTF he was doing there.. in the middle of a desert... with a Mexican girl.. with Mexican children...??!! Economic immigrant? I dont think so... He was 10 times more poor than the poorer Greek. WTF were the needs that guided him there...? Is it something innate to go around the world even if it is worst than the place we used to live in Greece? I believe it is something innate... to move around... PS. there is a meeting the last 2-3 days in Athens for the Greek kids around the world (from S.A.E). They gave an interview in Greek TV. I enjoyed listening Greek with 1 million different accents! lol lol lol . I never thought of listening Greek with Brazilian accent. It was nice and funny..
