Did Western Scholars taught Konstantinos Palaiologos to call in his last speach(preserved by Sfrantzis) Constantinoupolis as "elpida kai hara olon ton Ellinon"-"hope and joyance of all Hellenes"? If you went to an Albo in 18th century and asked him what is Illyria and Illyrians what would he response? Please answer with a primary sourse not your guess.

Fact is Albanians started giving Illyrian names to their kids about 40 years ago... It's amazing how an entire country of people can be coaxed into believing what they are not.... and the funny thing is ,it's so easy to do..look at the Skopiani... you can't even argue with them anymore..there mind is made up ... on who they are... I have seen some now that go around wearing those skull caps or plis ....

I believe that a small minority of you are descendants from Illyrian tribes... the majority of you are from nomadic tribes that roamed mid Europe for hundreds of years.

DukeJohn you've said before something about "western scholars" and "Hellenes"...can you still support your opinion? Again, who was that "western scholar" that made Palaiologos to say that(i've quoted above)...and many other long before 1453? And you didn't answer to my question...if you asked an Albo of 18th century if he knew what "Illyrians" and "Illyria" is what would he answered??? Please, use a primary sourse.Greeks have well documented history about 3500 years... speaking in this area the Greek language...something that only Chinese and Indians can claim too. What about Albos? Where were you during middle ages?

Some times before Byzantine collapsed the term Hellens came in use again but not in wide scale, only The people like Palaiologos who knew that once before Byzantines there was some people who lived there and called their selfs as hellens,in Byzantine era specially in begining people distinguised their selfs from Hellens,at that time the word hellen was used to describe pagans. If you asked an Albo of 18th century he would answer you as Shqiptar and if you read Letter from Gjergj Kastrioti to the Prince of Taranto then you will know who the Albanians are. Where we were in middle ages? exactly in the same place where we are now.

Kastriotis says that he was an Epirotis...of course due to confusion with the geographic meaning of the term Epirus during the Middle Ages, I mean the two " themata" Palaia(Old) and Nea(New) Epirus that included a great part of the modern state of Albania. Why didn't he said that he is Illyrian...descedant of Bardhyllis...? Can you please say more things about where do you believe that Albos lived during middle ages? Which areas exactly?I mean during about 1000A.D.

Patrinos, there is a big diff between a literate upperclass monarch and the average illiterate population. Konstantine had the time and pleasure to read old works and to acquaint himself. The western scholarship meant the vast, non-western educated (and this includes the ones who were educated locally: clergy).
Ill leave it at that....
(Reaquanting yourself by reading old works is a rather artificial way of bringing back a past memory btw... its what the general population retains that makes it real.)
