Lithuania, Hungary, Moldova, Latvia, and Kazakhstan are NOT Slavic states although considering being "Slavic" is purely linguistic (NOT genetic in the case of the South Slavs) I fail to see how speaking a certain language has anything to do with suicides per capita.

They have a considerable number of Russian minorities. Plus, Ukraine, Slovenia, Russia, Croatia, Belarus are Slavic countries. They are in the top-20 for suicdal rates. Wrong. Do some homework ( I mean research ). What's the point? High chance you might suicide yourself before i'm done my research.

Hmmmmmmm 100000 to 21 is not so big probability. also I am not from Vojvodina where suicidal rates are highest in Serbia (most probably because of Hungarians).

Going aginst yourself, aren't you, Serbs? Shonic says that the high suicidal rate in Serbia must be attributed to the presence of depressed Hungarians ... yet dismiss the Slavic factor in Kazakhstan (thirty per cent), Moldova (sixteen per cent) & Lithuania (twelve per cent) as contributive to the high ranking of above countries ... ?
PS Life is too dear Shonic, put away the razor ...

Check it yourself:
Suicide Rates (per 100.000) Source: World Health Organization (as of November 1999; see the most-recent WHO data from the year 2008) Country Year Males Females Hungary 1997 49.2 15.6 Yugoslavia 1990 21.6 9.2 (for Yugoslavia count Albanians as well)

Albania is blue given the fact that people are happy. Serbs usually poke fun at us for having less "standard of living". So what? When that doesn't come at the expense of happiness. Or healthiness.
Suicide can also be linked to depression, alcohol abuse, mistreatment as children, quality of life,,, etc . Given that Slavic countries have a high rate of suicide we can assume it must be a variety of these factors influencing their decision to end their life.
Which factors are then? Maybe that's a question to be researched.

Most people in Albania are not really all that happy... and suicides and such problems have made their way into the country. They are even more pronounced in post-war Kosova, where cases of depression have gotten pretty high. Most of these are in relation to the fact that East Europe: 1) Suffered a total economic-social collapse with the fall of Communism, sending many diving headlong from the world they were raised in, 2) Wars.

That doesn't explain Slovenia's high suicidal rate. It had the highest rate in former Yugoslavia before the war despite being the most economically developed republic in YU (Kosova had the lowest, despite being the poorest). The skirmishes it had with JNA does not equal war, and its population did not suffer massacres like in Bosnia or Kosova. The transition from the old communist system to a free market democracy wasn't as painful as in the case of many other former commie states.
And still neither Albania nor Kosova seems to be competetive with these economically more advanced and to war less exposed countries. Bosnia has a statistically lower suicidal rate than Slovenia ... nobody can argue that Slovenia has suffered more than Bosnia in war or transition.

The suicide rates are to take into account due to the USSR Collapsing (That is the ONLY reason this is happening). Had the USSR not collapsed, and the socio-economic situation not gone so low, then the Eastern Bloc/Ex-USSR nations would not be experiencing such a high suicide rate. Just look at some of the shit that's happened in Russia once the Communists were overthrown; such as the Mafia, the Economic Uncertainty until Putin came to power, the fragile social systems.. everything that took 80 years to create was reversed in a few months. Its not just Slavs that contribute to that "statistic", but anyone from those regions. Even Russia's population rate is stagnant (Which before it was in the negative), and will not be fixed for another 4-8 years. Former Sec. Gen. Mikhail Gorbachev said it well; The Collapse of the Soviet Union was the largest Geo-Political Mistake of the 20th Century.
