Anniversary of deportation of Macedonia's Jews 11 March 2008 | 12:06 | Source: Makfax Vesnik SKOPJE -- Today marks the 65th anniversary of the deportation of 7200 Jews from Macedonia by Bulgarian fascists.
Wreaths will be placed at the monument of Macedonian Jews at the Tobacco Plant in Skopje. A memorial service will be held at Skopje's Butel cemetery.
On March 11, 1943, some 7,200 Macedonia's Jews from Skopje, Bitola and Stip were transported to the then transit camp in Skopje.
Later, they were loaded into boxcars and deported en masse to Treblinka concentration camp. Almost all of them were killed in gas chambers there. Only a handful survived the Holocaust.
