Croatians are doing well in the soccer here in Oz. You can almost call the Australian team a second Croatian B team.

The thing I hate the most, is that many are just backward and are more seljak than those backhome thesdays and that's why I don't associate with them often.

Its common for children of immigrants to express strong nationalistic views, the further removed they are from the homeland the more they feel the need to express their ethnic pride views.

The Croatian and the Aussie Coat of Arms My contribution to the "History Challenge" is how an immigrant Croatian farmer developed the interesting design features of the Australian Coat of Arms. These were based on a design trade marked and developed by a vigneron and winery whose owner was of Croatian origin from Dubrovnik - Mr Troyano Darveniza. His vineyard was located in Mooroopna, near Shepparton, under the name of Excelsior Vineyards. The vineyards' logo was trade-marked and registered in 1871. The logo on his wine labels involved a kangaroo and emu with a barrel in between. Around this were drawings of medals won successfully at wine exhibitions around Australia and the world. The various colonies each tried to copy the designs but ran into copyright infringements. So they had to vary their designs by exchanging either the kangaroo or emu for another animal. Finally, in 1901, even the Federal Commonwealth government of Australia wanted to use the distinct design features but the plucky Croatian stood his ground and would not be threatened by any Federal Court actions. Since Queen Victoria granted the trade mark, it was very difficult to override. Finally after some bartering about possible sale of rights or royalties, the Croatian offered free use of the design! All these discussions lasted up to 1912 when the current Commonwealth Coat of Arms warrant was granted by George V on September 19, 1912. This is a history topic, not a oh Croatians are crazy, natinalistic topic. Why can't we just look at the positives rather than the negatives? We are not all the same people in this world, and most certainly all Croatians are not the same.

Who could forget Australia's most famous and most successful 3 times winning Melbourne Cup Horse ... MAKYBE DIVA. Makybe Diva is an Australian racehorse, and the first thoroughbred to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup three times: in 2003 and 2004, and again in 2005 when she also won the Cox Plate.[1] Sired by Desert King to dam Tugela, Makybe Diva is the highest stakes-earner in Australasian horse-racing history, with winnings of AU$14,526,685 when she retired on 1 November 2005. Did u Know? In November 1977, an unofficial Croatian embassy was opened in Canberra, causing a legal and diplomatic difficulty for both the Australian and Yugoslav governments. The embassy, aimed at raising awareness of Croatia as a nation and the Croatian people separate from Yugoslavia, remained open for a period of 23 months before closing in 1979. Since the independence of Croatia in the 1990s, an embassy has been opened in Canberra and consulates have been opened in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. ;D
