Why do so many Croats (mainly those who carry on a certain Ustasa (hate Muslims/Orthodox Christians) sentiment get annoyed when people say Croatia is a part of Balkan? I realize that some people in Croatia think that Croatia is lightyears ahead of Serbia/BiH etc but that really doesn't change the outcome of how everyone else views EX-YU countries. I will give credit to some Croats who really wish to adopt higher standards and that is absolutely commendable, but I really think that blood that flows throughout ex-yu states is very thick and it can't really be diluted all that fast with some forceful EU dream.

This thread is nothing but mere provocation and should be deleted. Reminds me of those forceful politics during yugoslavia when commi politicians tried to force-feed us a yugoslav identity.
Instead of a yugoslavia one now there are those 'non Croats' balkanists who would like us to be more like them, 'balkan', which is disgusting to say the least.
The question should be 'why some people get so upset when someone says that Croatia isnt in the Balkans'?!
Praporshchik Bosnatron - go back to your dysfunctional 'Bosnia' which lies in the very heart of the Balkans and leave us Europeans be.

I feel that the map should be extended as far up as central Romania and the southernmost tip of Hungary. It should also head a little into southern Moldova and Ukraine.

Because it's not, it's a modern day term used to explain the region.
Depending on what sources you cite, and even then only half so stop generalising...
P.S not all of us hate muslims

I've always thought of Croatia as part of the Balkans, if some Croats dont wanna then to each his own.
By pure definition of a peninsula it certainly is, its part of the Balkan peninsula that juts out of Europe lol.

Bosnia is definitely apart of the Balkans ... both in mentality and architecture and in many other facets of life. It screams Balkan .... just over the border however, Croatia is much more European in nature and mentality and very Mediterranean. Its much apart of Central Europe as is Slovenia.
Anyone who visits can see the difference ... u go from Europe(Croatia) to the middle east(Bosnia). The difference is astonishing.
Croatia = Europe

To me Balkan mentality = Yugoslav war
So Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Turkey should be left out in my opinion.

I am afraid I am going to have to agree with Bosnatron. Whilst Croatia is in the Balkans, I too rarely manage to see the Slovenians as balkan people. They have been under German/Austrial influence for so long. Croats on the other hand would like to become Germans over night LOL. Sorry Pico, but you have balkan blood pumping through you. lol according to that Romania isnt in the balkans but its always included in all the books ive seen yeah I was thinking the same

In the end Cikola, it comes down to those who are actually in Europe to decide, and almost all European countries still see Croatia as part of the Balkans.

Yes there is a notabale difference, but middle east lol?
Cikola and bosnatron, pease keep it clean. Thanks
It doesn't really matter what other people think, it matters not to bindly believe what people tell you to, and to hold your beliefs close to oneself.

I don't see why anyone should be ashamed of being Balkan. This is a great place with a unique way of life that can't be found anywhere.

^ No, actually it doesnt really matter what you think, the Balkan peninsula isnt a mentality its a geographic location. It would be like a bunch of people from Naples who decided they're no longer on the Italian peninsula lol.
