Hello....I just spent the last week researching the history of my family in the Kuci Clan and im amazed at some of the stuff i learned (As you would be). I have a book writted by a rodjak which traces back the history of the Kuci in Montenegro (Both Serbian and Albanian) and gives every known family lineage, plus noteable migration patterns to and from Montenegro (Over 700 pages). My parents bought it for $70 Euros (Rip off) about 6 years ago.....but I never really got around to reading it seriously (because it was written in Cyrillic, and I was busy with work and study).
Anyways I rang my gradfather today aswell......and he was able to give me more information on certain family members which was also great.
Im going to be giving out Personal Information such as names, so I expect it to be respected ahahahaha. Plus the majority of people who are mentioned have been dead for over 100 years
Ok ill begin..............
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My family name is "Jokanovic" and Im from Podgorica. Anyways I wont give my first name (most people here know it anyway) But ill add that its a "Very" Serb name. I also wont reveal my fathers name..............although Ill say that it has a "Yugoslav/Serb" ring to it
Anyways the "Jokanovici" are from the Kuci Clan, and im not aware of them being in anyother clans from Montenegro. My ancestors made their living in the selo of "Vrbica" which is near Medun. Fast forward 300 years and my dad is the first in my personal lianege not to be born there (He was born in Niksic).

Now heres where it gets interesting..................My great great grandads name was : Alija ahahaaha.

Montenegrins in Vrbica.
* Only had one son : Petar (Great, great gradad)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. His fathers name was Nikola
*Had two sons : Djuro (Ancestor)
: Gaso
*Born in Hercegovina
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The most amazing part of my family history deals with the last two men. Nikola Jokanovic was actually born in Hercegovina around the late 1600s, and never stepped foot into todays Montenegro (Or Kuci for that matter). He had two sons, Djuro and Gaso Jokanovic and both men migrated down to Kuci from their homeland together. From tales past down through generations, the story goes that both men settled different different selos right next to eachother. Djuro settled Vrbica, whilst his brother Gaso settles a much more fertile land 700 m away. No one knows why, but apparently Gaso and Djuro had an argument (Probly down to Djuros jelousy of Gasos nice land) and the brothers stoped speaking. Gaso married an Albanian girl, and in turn changed his surname from Jokanovic to Gasic.......which later became Gashe. Anyways from this point on, it seems that the Gashe intermingled more and more with Albanians whilst the Jokanovici of Vrbica remained Serbian (Although there obviously would have been intermingling). This is amazing because the two selos were less then 1km apart............but one was predominatly Serbian speaking, whilst the other was Albanian. Even to this day, the Gasici (Gashe) are the only predominately "Albanian" branch of the original Jokanovici.
A bit more information on the Gashe :
*Gaso only had one son, and this trend followed for the next six generations.
: Gaso-Vata-Ljuljo-Saban-Ljeka-Ujka
*Ukja had two sons : Prenka (1861)
: Maras
--------------------------------------------------------------------
*Prenka had three sons : Kolja
Ljuca
Zef
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* Kolja had five sons : Prelja
Zef
Deda
Djerdj
Toma
* Ljuca had two sons : Nikola
Nika
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wont go into two much more detail about the Gashe, but the names that come up after that are mostly Christian eg. Aleksanda, Shtevan, Kolja, Nikola etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, pretty interesting isnt it? Amazing to see how people were able to keep their real names, aswell as adapt to their occupiers laws by also having islamisized names. Its also great to clear up the "Albanian" element of my side of Kuci aswell..............I cant speak for the rest of the tribe, but i can safely say my "Jokanovici" side was predominately Serb (Although I dont mind the Albanian Catholic links that exist either).
PS. If anyone else is from Kuci, ide be happy to give you your own family lineage
Anyways I rang my gradfather today aswell......and he was able to give me more information on certain family members which was also great.
