Hello my Southern Neighbors,
I'm considering going to Athens for a few days before I go back to Macedonia. Now I was looking at the trains, and from what I researched, I would have to go first to Thesonaliki (about a 6 hour train ride) then I would have to transfer to take another train to Shkup (Skopje) which is about another 4 hour ride. I would actually prefer to go to Oher (Ohrid) instead, but the trains do not go in that direction. Has anyone taken a bus before to Oher (Ohrid)? If so, how long would the bus ride take and approximately how much it would cost?
Regards,
TurkoAvlano nga Maqedoni

Really? Thing is I wouldn't mind doing some sight seeing and checking out Thesonaliki for a lil. I've read reviews online and they do mention there are lots of dealays once your into Macedonia. That's def a turn off.
How much do you think plane tickets would go around for (one way?)

Maybe. Thing is I might be going next year and I wouldn't be on a time constraint. Are there any nice beaches near Athens or would I have to hop on to one of those islands? I figure I would be able to get around with English and Albanian , correct?

beaches in athens are mediocre..but for a metropolitan city its the best in europe Not even spain or italy come close.... However, if you want a real beach...you might have to venture out a little bit from athens. Not far though...Legrena ( pic below )is a good example. Close to athens but outside the city skirts.. Other good one that i go to is keratea ( kakia thalassa ) the problem with athens beaches is the overcrowdiness sometimes...but thats about it. The water is clean...and i hope it stays that way. www.athensguide.com/beaches/index.htm

and everybody knows english....even the kioski guy ;D Heheheeh My uncle went to Greece a few years ago and he was at this restaurant ordering food. Once the waitor found out he was Albanian, the waitor told my uncle which meals not to order because the meat was bad. Anyways thanks for your help Chalkedon. I'm looking forward towards the hospitality of the Greeks and I plan to carry a few paper bags with me in case those Greek Orthodox Churches upset my stomach .

Why isn't used the real name of the city ? Shkupi(Albanian) from Illyrian "Scupi" ?

Why isn't used the real name of the city ? Shkupi(Albanian) from Illyrian "Scupi" ? Same reason ancient names such as Uskana and Monastir aren't used. The Slavs are recreating their own version of history.

Real slavs like Poles, Ukranians, ect dont need to be put in the same basket with the skopians. Its an insult to them and to me having slavic ancestry ( which im damn proud to have in me btw ).
I dont think you can categorize balkan slavs as such since they probably just speak the language. I dont think they have much slav blood in em..
skopians espescially are a despicable bunch...which think they are macedonians.

I was referring to the "Macedonians" in this case, hence, using examples from Macedonia.
As for Balkan Slavs, I'm indifferent to majority of them except for Serbs and "Macedonians." These groups, alongside other Slavs that support them (Ukranians, Russians, etc), I do not like.

:Sigh: I don't care what you guys call each other (Macedonian Slavs and Greks). I just wish you would get off my land.

Why are you separating us Macedonians from Greece, since when did Macedonia break away from Greece

Macedonia is just north of you Greks. They claim Alexander the Great and if the country lasts after a few generations, the whole world will probably accept them as Macedonians.
Again I don't give a chit what you guys call each other. You're both artificial in my eyes. Only Macedonia was 200 years late with it's form of "history."

It's the truth. If Macedonia survives, they will seen by the average person as Macedonian. No one will care about their Slavic identity after a few generation. Greeks were calling themselves Romans a few centuries ago and your average person does not care about that today. Kastor even your Grandchildren living in Germany will accept them as Macedonian.
It's kinda like that saying goes:
"Time heals all wounds."
