Zoti "How presumptuous of you to think that there are no qualified Albanian priests. Why Greek though? Why not Armenian, Serbian, or Russian" ------------------------------------------------------------- For various reasons. First of all, the above countries just came out of Commounism. They had a big gap in their religious life Second, in all the above coutnries... religon is heavily affected from their countries politics. They're not free yet to move alone like it happens with Greek Orthodoxy.. And finally, I doubt there are so educated Albanians today who sacrify their good Resume just for religion. It needs a lot of time... and really get tired of good leaving in order to give your all the rest of your life for a religion.. An Albanian with so much education like Ecumenical Patriarch has other priorities today. He will become rich in Albania. It needs a lot of time to step into that state of mind... and Albanians have other priorities now.
For sure.. in the long term I believe an ethnic Albanian will be the head of the religious state... but for the short term.. for the above reasons... I doubt.

Zoti, you are a Muslim... pretty hard for you to accept Christianity.... even though you speak well of Catholics..you do it because there are no Catholic Greeks.

Zoti, you are a Muslim... pretty hard for you to accept Christianity.... even though you speak well of Catholics..you do it because there are no Catholic Greeks. Bektashi is the correct term, but at my core I am a nationalist Albanian and would choose any religion as long as it was subservient to Albanianism. I spent part of my youth in a Protestant congregation and decided that nonsense was not for me. I even played Jesus Christ in one of our plays (I lack theatrical skills so they 'crucified" me so I didn't have to speak) Personally I think Protestanism and Catholicism are the two religons that would serve us well in these times. My anscestors had no problem converting so I don't see why I should have. Where I come from we live alongside Greeks so we have defined ourselves pretty much as everything but Greek, so yes Greek Catholics would probably be problematic as well. I'm here just to make you express yourself trully... and not hiding behing words.. Basil I've been here long before you have and I've had help from plenty of you compatriots so you are not serving any purpose really. Ah.. one more Turkalvanos. Didnt know that. Just loosing my time... I thought you could do better but I guess it's every Greek's fallback position when they run out of things to say. Was your name Ahristos in a previous life by any chance?

Yeah..hide under the Bektashi slogan... I have no other slogan to hide under I come from the Gjirokastra highlands, the bastion of Albanian Bektashism and the birthplace of Baba Rexheb. In Albania the Bektashis are recognzied as a "fourth religion" alongside the three main traditional ones. Sunni Islam is prevalent in North and Central Albania and is alien to us. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BektashiPersonally I think it's the perfect religion for the Albanians but I understand that not being feasible since it's no match for the Saudi/Arab, Greek, American and Vatican money, hence my insistence on converting to either Protestanism or Catholicism. At this point we are still doing a lot of soul-searching and the next 50 years should be very interesting as to where we're headed.

A long time ago a wise old man said "know thyself" and I've been trying to live by those words all my life. Thanks for helping me in my quest. P.S. I said old, never said wise, but thanks for the compliment. It really means a lot coming from someone like you

In Europe =/ European. Albs were influenced strongly by the eastern orientation of the Ottoman Empire. We have European traits in us, but we have strong oriental ones as well, which, think, predominate.

How are we "genetically European"? Care to show exactly which genes have been labeled as "European"? Or are you basing it off of a vague racial sense? In which case I dont think there is a 100% correlation between skin color and genes. Even so. It would bring to question what exactly is a "European race".
All these same to me to be artificial constructs by a people desperately looking to fit in with the "big boys". These racial, genetic cames are pathetic and only elude to the utter cultural distance Albanians have with the rest of Europeans.
