en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_heightGreeks'(males') average height is about 1.78...not bad... I suppose females' would be about 1.65... I wonder whats the average height of the rest Balkanoids... Montenegrins for sure are the tallest.... and maybe the Ljaps the shortest...

I wonder whats the average height of the rest Balkanoids... Montenegrins for sure are the tallest.... and maybe the Ljaps the shortest... The Dinaric Alps are the tallest - 185.6cm. Also, if the theory of Arsenije is right, then we must conclude that Bosnian Muslims from Brcko are genetically more "Serbs" than Orthodox Serbs from Bijeljina or Novi Sad Well those city examples are wrong but yes probably. Def morseo than eastern Serbs. The majority of the Dinaric Alps are of a Serbian population, this is also the Serbian homeland and also from where most Serbs trace their ancestry. Original purest Serbs (Raska - present day Montenegrins/Hercegovinans) are def the tallest. Serbian Serbs are only made shorter by the incorporation of various other peoples in eastern (not incl southern) Serbia in the Torlak regions who I think are either and or a combination of slavicised Thracians/Vlachs(same thing) or other random slavs. Walking around Podgorica it's immediately noticable that they are really tall. Sometimes it's even freaky when you see a woman walking around that could be a dead ringer for Andre the giant.

Original purest Serbs (Montenegrins) are def the tallest. Serbian Serbs are only made shorter by the incorporation of various other peoples in eastern Serbia in the Torlak regions. Bro, At least in Nis, Leskovac, they are not shorter than the rest of Serbia. Also, i think, this "Torlak" thing was a mechanical enforced intervention by Bulgarian rule and not a natural development. Even the Bulgarians admit that. Now, leaving the linguistic part aside, i also dont think that Bulgarians from Sofia are shorter than Serbs from Bijeljina or Novi Sad. So even if this "Torlak" theory had any genetic grounds, it would have nothing to do with height. Just to summirize: Tallest female basketball player (in the national team): Ana Perovic From Nis (TORLAK) Tallest male volleybal player (in the national team) : Ivan Miljkovic from Nis (TORLAK)

Also, if the theory of Arsenije is right, then we must conclude that Bosnian Muslims from Brcko are genetically more "Serbs" than Orthodox Serbs from Bijeljina or Novi Sad, because although Serbs from Bijeljina/NS are generally tall, they are noticeably shorter than muslims from Brcko or Tuzla. Not to mention that the percentage of some chromosome that Arsenije was talking about to be the "SERB" gene was in larger density in the Muslim/Croat populations of Bosnia and less in Serb Bosnian populations... Could it be said that Bosnian Serbs are the ...... non-Serb TORLAKS of Bosnia? Of course not. From Pirot to Banja Luka, and from Skoplje to Subotica serbs are the same

Not to mention that from all the players in Veliki Brat @b92, (from Crna Gora, Serbia, Bosnia, FYRMakedonia) the one who had the greatest trouble communicating with FYRMakedonian Violeta Raleva was Manuel Stojanovic from Pirot.

Stefan Uroš Dušan IV (c.1308 – 20 December1355), ... he was the tallest man of his time, estimated at close to seven feet tall. Stefan Uroš Dušan IV (c.1308 – 20 December1355), now called Dušan the Mighty, was King of Serbia and Emperor of the Serbs and Greeks (from 16 April 1345). Under his rule, Serbia reached its territorial peak and the Serbian Empire was one of the larger states in Europe at the time. Apart from significant territorial gains, in 1349 and 1354 he made and enforced Dušan's Code, a universal system of laws. He is also the only ruler from the house of Nemanjiæ (a medieval Serbian ruling dynasty) who has not been canonized as a saint. Dušan was also noted as a man of gigantic proportions, and according to Papal ambassadors, he was the tallest man of his time, estimated at close to seven feet tall. Considering Stefan Dusan was actually crowned in Skopje you'd reckon there'd have been a fair few Serbs in FYROM. Now this is a tall monk. www.donparrish.com/Parrish2008.html6'10" Serbian Monk Decani Monastery, Kosovo Slavko Vranes (Serb Montenergin). Probably the tallest basketball player in the Balkans atm at 229cm ...Pyrros make sure you go out to a club next time you are in Banja Luka. Biggest people I have ever seen in my life there.

Its just a regional thing. I've noticed that Montenegrins are not only tall but they massively built, it must be the limestone mountain they live on.

It was the capital of his empire, Belgrade only became larger because of ottoman occupation before then it was a small town.

England and Greece i heard had one the biggest "average height" growing rates. In Greece (well at least back in time when we were rather short) the tallest of all were the Chaniotes from western Crete (Kokolakis 217 cm, Glyniadakis 216cm)

The smallest people of the Balkans are living in Epirus...the region around Ioannina. Hmm no, we had at least 2 Centers at 210cm playing for PAOK (Kalogeros, Soulis) back in the 80s... Anyway neither "Prevezianoi" nor "Kastorianoi" are known to be tall, exactly. PS Did you know that Preveza is a slavic toponym?

That was not in order to offend you but its a fact that Epirotes are the smallest of all Greeks. When I was in Ioannina some years ago I was surprised how small people there are in average. As for Preveza...I dont know what the people from the city are like but the people of my dimos are tall in average. So is my family. No giants but clearly taller than the average Greek. I dont care if the name is slavic because Im not from the city of it but a village.
