Ethnic Albanians now push for a separate region in southern Serbia
Ethnic Albanian councilors in Serbia's south have launched an initiative to form Albanian regional institutions and a separate region of the so-called "Presevo Valley".
(KosovoCompromise Staff) Monday, August 03, 2009
A political declaration, adopted in an assembly of councilors of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac, reminds that this initiative comes "in the spirit of the political platform of January 2006".
Albanians from the south of central Serbia wish to speed up talks between the government and "legitimate Albanian institutions and political representatives of the three municipalities, with international mediation, in order to accelerate the political process renewed in March this year, in line with the most progressive regional and European standards".
The documents insists on finding an acceptable solution to recognizing diplomas issued in Pristina after February 2008, when Kosovo's ethnic Albanians unilaterally declared secession.
It once again calls for Albanians arrested in Presevo in December 2008 on terrorism charges to be released from custody, and to have their case "processed within international legal mechanisms, since it is evident that the question has been politicized", and says that all members of the so-called Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja Liberation Army (OVPMB; UCPMB) "are being incriminated without exception".
The armed group launched numerous attacks in the area from 1999 until 2001, seeking to join the three municipalities to Kosovo.

Tearing Up of Serbia: Albanians Want East Kosovo
Albanians from the south of the country want a separate region because the issue of Kosovo has not been solved. Serbs are refusing the idea. Published: August 04, 2009 10:28h Albanians from southern Serbia have started an initiative for the forming of a special region Presevo Valley. But the Belgrade political public sees this as an unacceptable act of separatism, Serbia’s Kurir reported. Albanian parties forwarded to the Serbian government a request for the formation of Albanian regional institutions and the separate region of Presevo Valley, which would mean, according to the Kurir daily, the introduction of special institutions which would entail financing from EU funds. Assemblies of the Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac municipalities requested of the Serbian government to speed up talks on regionalisation, with international mediation. - The latest document is a response to the irresponsible relation of the Serbian government towards the problems and demands of Albanians in the south of Serbia – Riza Halimi, leader of the PDP, said. ‘Request for regionalisation is politically motivated’ But the president of the coordination for the south of Serbia, Milan Markovic, says the Albanians’ request is unrealistic and politically motivated. - I think that such ideas do not go hand in hand with ideas that advocate a better life in the south of Serbia – Markovic said. Dusan Janjic, director of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, said this is a reactivation of the idea of an exchange of territory. - It is true that the old story on the exchange of territory is being renewed again because the status of Kosovo has still not been defined. This government is only looking how to get more Kosovo territory and is not thinking about the possible reactions. And one of the reactions is this, a request for a new region or, as the Albanians call it, eastern Kosovo – Janjic said. The coordinator of a working group for the preparation of a solution for regionalisation, Suzana Grubjesic, believes that regionalisation would contribute to the destabilisation and disintegration of Serbia.

One push can be a push too far. If anything happens, the Serbian Army will roll in just like the SCG Army did in 2001.

If I ever run for "President of the Republic of Serbia" then my slogans going to be "A paycheque in every mailbox, a loaf of bread on every table, a house for every Serb and a bullet for every Shqiptar."

^How about just, welcome to the independent state of presevo valley-where all your dreams can be had.
People have been saying this for years now, yet their stance is looking increasingly worse. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell me you really believe this.

How about "Welcome to the Serb Republic of Montenegro"? Look, I have nothing against Shqiptars having a state. It's just that I prefer that state being in the Adriatic rather than close to any other ethnic groups.

Mig is correct one push will be a push too much..considering that the policys towards the South has been formulated and implemented with International bodies...so the attacks are seen by all as terrorist attacks and as a policy of the world Serbia will not negotiate with Terrorists
Minister reacts to ethnic Albanian declaration 4 August 2009 | 12:43 | Source: B92 BELGRADE -- Chairman of the Coordination Body for Southern Serbia Milan Marković says a recent ethnic Albanian declaration "will not solve any problems".
The body deals with issues in the southern municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa, where Serbia's largest population of ethnic Albanians outside of Kosovo itself lives.
Serbia has the complete support of the international community for the policies it leads in the south, Marković, who is also a cabinet minster, told B92 on Monday.
He said that no international mediation is needed for solving the problems which the state has with the demands of the local Albanians living in that region of Serbia.
“It is completely unnecessary to talks about these things. Serbia has the complete support of international officials for the policies which we formulated together,” he said.
“The rhetoric in the declaration does not exist in our talks. I think that it is maybe the result of nervousness of the more radical elements, because we do not respond to terrorist acts or any kind of provocations in the way they want us to. We will continue to implement our policies,” Marković said.
An assembly of ethnic Albanian councilors in the region adopted a declaration on Saturday announcing an initiative for creating "regional institutions of Albanians and forming the Preševo Valley region".

^ I also agree with MiG, an extra push could be viewed as a negative!. If the article is right, then why doesn't now the republic of serbia get into those regions and flush out those separtists and monitor that region with an eagles eye?
