The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a severe catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake centred approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, which struck on Tuesday 12 January 2010. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 mi). The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of aftershocks, twelve of them between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9. The International Red Cross has stated that as many as 3 million people have been affected by the quake, with as many as 500,000 deaths according to the prime minister. Most of Port-au-Prince's major landmarks were significantly damaged or destroyed in the earthquake, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. Additionally, all hospitals were destroyed or so badly damaged that they have been abandoned. The United Nations reported that headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, collapsed and that a large number of UN personnel were unaccounted for. The Mission's Chief, Hédi Annabi, was confirmed dead on 13 January by President René Préval. There is concern about the emergency services' ability to cope with a major disaster, and the country is considered "economically vulnerable" by the Food and Agriculture Organization.More: www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2807606/100000-feared-dead-in-Haiti.htmlDONATE NOW:•The American Red Cross is pledging an initial $200,000 to assist communities impacted by this earthquake. I could easily envision a far less inhumane world in not so distant future. One where the issue of overpopulation will become a given and need for the reduction will become a race against time. Upper classes will fully cease to relate to the lower classes within their own countries. News like this one here will actually bring them joy only they will not show it out of fear of instability.
Hellboy is in a crude way one version of things to come.

It would take a long time of ignoring overpopulation before it became enough of a burden to be resolved by killings. Before that happens, practices will be put in place like birth regulations and, who knows, extraterrestrial settlements could happen. But I think war and nuclear weapons will likely take care of the issue.

Exactly Zvone, there's so much space. Go to midwest in the US for example, it's all empty there, and that's just one area of 1 country.
As for the Haiti victims, may they rest in peace.

The amount of food production in the US alone could feed the world multiple times over. Its not a matter of food production or space.... its a matter of wealth. Africans and Asians cant afford the food so it goes wasted. During the Great Depression, American pig farmers threw away massive packages of meat because they were not selling rather than giving them away.
There is no real theory regarding overpopulation, only speculation and fear mongering. The fact is EU and US can produce such a mass of food that if they didnt waste it in such large quantities, many in the world would not be starving. Its a matter of modernization.

AA: You are itching for an I tag aren't you plus real gypsies are like roughly 10% of Balkans and certainly on some level represent a part of it whether some like it or not.

The overpopulation is not simply about food or needs but wants. All humans want to enjoy American standard of living and countries like India and China alone , once they reach it would have increased their economic output by easily 10 to twenty times which also means polution levels. I have read before that if all humans were stacked next to each other (like sardines in a can) we would fit a state of Texas or countries like Afghanistan, Botswana, Burma (now Muanmar), Somalia, Turkey or Ukraine. Turkey is roughly similar in size to all the combined countries in Balkans so that is not that small of a space. If these humans were to make a step from each other that area increases several times over. Now all humans need a lot more space then just a step from each other since they do not want to live stacked like that but want spacious land and a house and desire multiple cars and many (primarily unnecessary things). Include deserts, jungles, mountains and subpolar/polar regions and I doubt that we are left with more then 20% of arable (also bascially livable land) land but why speculate lets look at numbers Arable land covers an area of approximately 12 million square miles (31 million square kilometers)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arable_landor area that is three times the size of Canada en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth#Human_geography

You see, these third worlders, the problem is,they breed like rabbits when they cant even support themselves, and then use their children to get help.Remember how people keep going on and on about those "starving African children"? Their always using children to get help. Most of those poor kids are not even orphans.Exploiting altruism. This is what makes me livid!

Chinese population is shrinking and will be topped by India in the near future. Furthermore, if these countries had the living standards of the US they two could expand production of resources. Furthermore, the current rise in the population of these countries could possibly become abated should a stable modern culture be introduced. Afterall, whenever modernization is introduced to a country, initial rise in population peaks and then starts to reverse. Look at the Balkans for instance. The rapid rise in population in India, China and Middle East is a byproduct of improved health conditions alongside traditional culture.
I imagine as population increases steps could be taken to create arable land... for instance reversing the desertification of the Sahara and Central Asia.
Not to mention that there is a current trend going on in the world: skyscrapers. Japan, for instance, wants to introduce new architectural designs to make mega skyscrapers larger than anything we have now. As urban zones grow, so will the architectural design of buildings.
