I used to have panic attacks as a child thinking about death. For me, it was the uncertainty aspect of death that scared me the most. I couldn’t live knowing that I’d fall asleep and never wake up again, however, as I aged, I realized that it was irrational to be scared of death. It is an inevitable part of nature; everyone dies. Now, I am indifferent to dying. I mean I don’t want to die, but if I do die, then it is just a natural end to my life. I am neither happy nor sad about it.

Not at all. I'd be more worried the pain it caused to family and people that cared for me.

I'm sure as you get older you think about death much much more.

I am not afraid of eventually Dying I am afraid though of how I will one day die.
Will I be screaming in pain before the moment or will I be in a coma and not feel anything etc etc. Will it be Violent or peaceful, this is what makes me afraid of the whole death thing.

It makes me depressed to know a person like my professor, so well read, who knows so much... will one day just die and everything he knows will disappear. Its not death that scares me, its the fact that once I die, all I accomplish will be gone that depresses me. It makes me think: "is there any real reason for this, should I really care about this? When Im dead and no longer exist... it wont mean a thing."

Herrshcaft, it all depends on if you live your life to the fullest. By that I mean if you pass on your legacy to your children. With all your study you are constantly cultivating yourself, if you can instill your legacy in your children then it will not be a waste because culture will have passed from one generation to another. That is the point of life after all. With children you dont really die because you live on genetically. Being a proffessor isn't really fullfilling in passing on your legacy and knowledge because your students, in the US, would be ethnic aliens and not albos.

Herrschaft I know exactly what you mean, man. Those exact same thoughts go through my head all the time, especially when I'm doing something that I consider stupid or something I don't want to do.

Sure, but I think you accept it more easily.
It may not mean a thing to you, but for the following generations your knowledge will be important, that is if you did something great.

I remember as a teenager being afraid of death. Now, not at all. Partly because of faith. Sometimes I even look forward to leaving the material world. I definitely would not want to die before the next World Cup though.

I'm scared of death I guess.I'm scared of dying too,I've seen it.
This whole death makes me so confused, makes me feel like nothing, which makes me lose my motivation

I've always been very principled and I think that makes the idea of death easier.
Basically, whether its with family, friends, or co-workers..I've had situations and circumstances that I would never put up with or would not want to be involved in. So I'm always making "stands" on situations and I know how I've felt during these situations..I've felt like "I'd rather die then be involved in this situation" etc.
For example, independence and not relying on others is really really important to me. I would rather die then have anybody have to take care of me.
It's an easy decision for me.

It's black and white if you actually believe what you are thinking.

Yes, I am. But the question should better be "Are you afraid of death?" I am because I dont know what will come then...(I believe nothign will come though) and Im too young to die atm. Let me live some decades, then I wont care (want to see if I will still be saying that then ;D).
Every human is afraid of death...you are all liars here. Imagine you would get the diagnosis cancer now...all of a sudden. End-stage...no possibility of cure. You wouldnt get panic? Who is telling me that...
People who say they are not afraid of death and really mean it are people who have nothign in life...and have nothing to lose.

I used to fear death....then i read this... Epicurus famously said, When a man dies, he does not feel the pain of death because he no longer is and he therefore feels nothing. Therefore, "death is nothing to us." When we exist death is not, and when death exists we are not. All sensation and consciousness ends with death and therefore in death there is neither pleasure nor pain. The fear of death arises from the false belief that in death there is awareness.I think im agnostic....
