The Albanian language is not pure, having draw largely from the Turkish, Greek, Slav and Latin tongues. It has two leading dialects — that of the north, called Gegish, which is considered the purest representation of the Albanian tongue, although it contains many words derived from Turkish ; that of the south, or Toskish, which is not as primitive as Gegish and carries a larger proportion of foreign words. The Albanian tongue has no literature, but it is rich in folk songs, tales and proverbs. The Gegish uses the Roman Alphabet, while the Toskish uses the Greek. Both alphabets are modified in the adoption
The proverb, "the men of the mountain are free has been verified to a marked degree in the case of the Albanians. With rare intervals this warlike people, called the "Eagles of the Balkans," has preserved its independence and seldom acknowledge the authority of any foreign power. The Albanian still retain their patriarchal institutions, and although they are nominally a part of the Turkish Empire, Ottoman authority is slightly recognized. The nominal authority of the Porte was acknowledged in 1478, but the country has enjoyed a great Measure of freedom.

T is called CONTACT and doesn't show non-purity but influence...further more, it shows that Albs. have been living in those areas by the time of Greeks and Romans that's why there are such borrowings. Which language is 100% pure by the way??? Dialects exist in all languages, don't they? But of course! In the Medieval ages, before the invention of the Printing Press, all Europe didn't have much literature! But being rich in folk songs indicates Balkan heritage because in those songs is sung about the wars and heroes against Montenegrins, Serbs and Greeks!!! Alphabet is a CODE of expressing the phonemes. The CODE could have been Sumerian, Chinese Characters, Cyrillic (not Greek I think) and Latin (not Roman I believe); Illyrians of North (or should I say Albs?! ) being in contact with Romans took it from them and South Illyrians (again should I say Albs?!) took it from Greece! Again indicates nothing more then their presence in there. As here we have the fact that Ottomans themselves distinguished Albanians from Ottomans nonetheless Albs. being part of Turkish Empire. Important is they have NOT being identified as Greeks, nor Serbs, nor Bulgarians...but Albanians, or Shqiptar. Thank you Ajax, with your sources, you seem to prove one more time (not that you want it, of course!) what I have been saying so far. By the way, what's the secret of your karma?

Nikilianos I do not wish to contribute anymore. You know debating with some people is a waste of time, many do it for fun others to fine tune their propagandas what approach works and what doesn’t. Katalaves ?. Better to correct then to debate as in to help them unwittingly with their propagandas. Rather promote and defend it "there are other ways" our culture, we should be thankful we are blessed.
I maybe very harsh to deal with, my motto is "you have to be cruel to be kind sometimes" is just me, some have asked.
