despite that worst event for Greeks ever, Polis will always be the "hope and joy of all Hellenes" as the Last Emperor said... and Turks will always be the intruders and foreigners to this land.

A great day for Balkan people who were still under the terror of the Byzantines. For those who were free, not so great.

well personally speaking I was really depressed when I first went to turkey and saw " the poli ". It was a strange feeling between anger, depression, and hope. I was angry at ourselves for being to greedy during the war and losing the treaty of sevres. Then i was depressed and not ever having that city belong to Greek ppl. Then after numerous times being there I felt hope that the byzantine monuments and history will be protected under Turkey and that one day our churches ( espescially Aghia Sofia ) will be open again. I love that city...Great place to be.
FYI - Meltdown you have no idea what your saying sometimes...

I dont think the Turkish ppl will ever understand what type of an impact that was to us. I swear its as if that place connected with me when I first saw it. Unbelievable feeling.. Maybe cause I know I have roots there...I dont know how to explain it.

Lets say Greece took it back, lets say the next PM of Turkey said, here u go guys, take it back...what are you going to do with the 12.6 million that are there? What is the population of Greece?
I mean come on, is it really going to happen?
I think not truelly...
Although I agree all Christian, Jewish, and whatever other religious buildings there are should be used only for that religions worship. It would make Turkey a much more inviting cultural experience.

There is no other town in the world that causes more goose skin to me than Constantinople. If I see the Hagia Sofia..the destroyed palasts of the Emperors...the Theodosian walls...its not easy for a Greek to see this heart of Hellenism being outside of our borders today. Constantinople belongs to us, this town is not turkish...its under turkish rule. We will always strive for it, no matter how much it will take...100, 200, 1000 years...we will return and give the Hagia Sofia her original function back.

Desire we are not talking about liberating the Polis tomorrow...in todays times...people can move very qucikly...how many inhabitants did the city have 100 years ago and how many today...people come and go...1453 when the Turks conquered the Polis...it had less than 50.000 inhabitants...at its greatest times it had more than half a million...the population is not the problem... just one barrier...Ankara must collapse.....for this...we need megalomanic turkish politicians....

Istanbul was ruled by the Ottomans for over 400 years so why wouldn't it be easy for you to see Istanbul ruled by Turkey today

Anyhow, So I am really wondering how exactly these people will "go" .. ? I mean we aren't living in the stonge ages u can't climb on a T rex and get them to eat up all the people in Istanbul can u Kasto? What is your strategy here? Your civilised european strategy? Are u aiming to become a superpwoer with this city, what do you think the EU will say about this LOL

Il just be happy if it turns into a cosmopolitan city again. With plenty of greeks and turks and byzantine churches open along side ottoman mosques. A combination of both empires into one. I know Kastor may not like my opinion....i dont blame him really. But its the most realistic and I would be really happy to see that day.

If u ever happen to be in Istanbul, try to visit the backstreet passages of taksim, you can find many many Turks, Greeks, and Armenians having raki together and talking, I always enjoy this part of istanbul.
I agree with u I wish all of Turkey was more cosmopolitan.

Kind of like how Jerusalem has its christian and muslim quarters. We can get Constantinople before the bridge on Europe side. And Istanbul for you guys After the bridge on the asian side for you. ;D. Although that would leave Kadikory on the Asian Side ;D
