I would. It's my community and my people. More importantly it is for my family's eventual safety and stability.

Da! With even the benefit of hindsight I would. I love this saying, "S Verom u Boga, Sloboda ili Smrt." I have my heritage in Bosnia. So lets say it's some time around 1389 & I'm living there I'd have the same name as now. I could choose life, convert to Islam, change my name to Murat Muslimovic and become an Ottoman, or otherwise I could have joined Vlatko and fought the Turks to my death. A lot of Serbs chose to become Ottomans/Turks/Bosnjaci. Those with perhaps greater faith chose to fight to death & hence our ethnic attachment to faith. I would still choose to fight.

No. A country is just a country, borders change and my death would be pointless, because war is pointless.

I would fight like my mountain-dwelling ancestors before me, this is more than life or death.

lol @ tyson. It has nothing to do with the fact that I am a woman. When I was younger I used to think sure I would fight if I was under threat, but as I get older I think no way, nothing or no one is worth it. What can us women do then except to give you a pussy to make kids with, seriously.

Absolutely not. Why would I sacrifice my life to see the politicians and the elites benefit from the war in the end? The situation is always the same......young men fighting old men's wars. Fck that. I'd fight if my place were invaded and I had to save my family. That's about it.
I think Godfather 2 put it best:
"People in the military are saps because they risk their lives for total strangers...Your country ain't your blood "
Which is why I would never in a million years fight for America. When I look around at all the faces I see in this country, I would never risk my life for them. Not for the minorities, not for the 6th generation Americans, not for the multi-millionaire/billionaire WASPS that will be sitting on the sidelines whenever there is a war.

^So you wouldn't die for Ilirida, that's what you're saying.

Ilirida will be achieved through political means. But say if the Slavs and Albanians in Macedonia were to have another war, I would be better served financing the Albanians and talking sht on Illyria forums then I would be fighting.

If you are told by your politicians that time has come to fight and may be die for your country would you believe them? Would you believe that there is no way out other than war?

Those who die for their nation rarely come from the privilaged ranks of society. The average grunt will always come from the lower echlons and generally he will be the one who is more ideologically led than the wealthier, more educated part, parts of society.
I guarantee that if war were to break out in the Balkans again, 99% of the people here would sigh in relief at the fact that they are not doing the immediate fighting and will content themselves with just providing money for arms and equipment.
However, truth be told, supplying the army is half the battle. The diaspora can do other things, such as (mentioned above) organize charities to supply the army, organize media control to turn attention to your particular cause. Only one part of the war is fighting, the rest is just as important to victory anyway.

For me it would have to depend on what kind of situation it is. If it's an invading war then I'd rather not die for it, however, if it's defensive and my family is in imminent danger then I'd fight to protect them.
For example, I would never enlist to fight in the modern-day Middle-East. But I would have enlisted to fight in WWII against Adolf Hitler and would have risked my life trying to help others.

I would fight a defensive war in Serbia, for sure. Defending one's nation, family, and friends is an honorable task and I have no doubts about enlisting. I don't know about an attacking war though.
And as Zvone said, these notions of "defending your country" halfway across the planet in someone else's land are absolutely absurd.

Would you die for your country?
Depends on the situation, if we are talking invasion, enslavement etc I would fight, but my first priority would always be my family and loved ones, to keep them safe I would Die without a second thought.
