What's a shiptar? If you're going to post in the Albanian forum, you should refrain from using derogatory language against us.
Shqiptar is what we call ourselves, in your language we're Albanac. Shiptar is a term you use to speak derogatorily of us, but since you're speaking English, the proper term would be Albanians.
If you don't want to refer to us properly, then why do you even try to communicate with us?

^ Before the communists came in with their politically correct version which is in serbian Albanac. Serbs borrowed from them the way they call themselves which is shqiptar. The same happened with the Hungarians, Madjari (In serbian) or Magyar. The worst l think is the serbian for German which is nemac that means nothing in our language.
I don't give get a rats azz what the albs here call me (shkijet). If some albs have a problem with dusko's way of calling them, then why don't the mod's then erase the word, but not delete the topic.

as i see most photos in the video are from Prizren, the Rufai/Rifai sufi order's celebration of Nevruz (spring equinox). where it originated, i heard one explanation is that its root is from the Mongol conquest of todays persia and iraq, rifai sufis tried to amaze the violent mongols this way but i don't know if its true. and what its purpose, i guess showing the power of their practicies/faith and it can be a good tourist attraction also lol

The word shiptar has no meaning in their language. It's the way it's the word is used. When they call us shiptar, it's used with spite, as if we're some lower form of life than they are.
I'm just asking that he use the proper words. If he is speaking Albanian and referring to Albanians he can refer to us as Shqiptar, if he is speaking Serbian he should call us Albanac, but him speaking English and referring to us as shiptars is meant as derogatory, and I for one take offence to it because of the way it is meant.
My father was listed in his Yugoslav military documents as a shiptar because the authorities didn't like the fact that he didn't follow the propaganda spread by the government at the time that Muslim Kosovar Albanians were a separate ethnicity than Catholic Albanians. According to the BS propaganda, they used to call Muslims shiptars but Catholics were Albanac.
He said one time he a (a Catholic from Montenegro), a Kosovar Albanian Muslim, a Montenegrin, and a Serb were out on the town for drinks while they were in the military. The Serb made a reference to how it was amazing how 4 different ethnicities could all get along as well as they did. My father mentioned that there weren't 4 ethnicities because he and the Kosovar were both Albanian. Obviously this didn't sit well with the officials, so in his official military documents, he was listed as a shiptar, even though all of the rest of the Albanian Catholics who got out of the military at the time were listed as Albanac.
Funny thing is even though they considered him to be a lower class person than they were, they couldn't deny his abilities as a soldier. The remarks regarding him as a soldier were that he was excellent in every facet of being a soldier. Anyway, the word shiptar is derogatory and I don't care for it.

Well for whatever its worth...me being half polish. Ppl use the word Polak as a derogetory word. But the word Polak itself is a word in the polish language that just means " man of polish descent " lol.
So i never get offended by that word Polak. I use it often myself as a word in fun to describe myself and family in good gesture. I know some poles that get offended, but its their problem. Anyway...dont lose sleep over it ;D

You still didn't get it polak No one was offended at the usage of Sh Qiptar but the use of Shiptar. If you still don't see the bold faced capital "Q" let me know so I can find another way of communicating it to you. And your n-word analogy fails to. It'd help if you knew the history behind the derogatory connotation of "Šiptar" in former Yugoslavija. As for you Dusko derpe if you can't pronounce or write your "Q"s next time use "Zotëri" and you'll get your answer. Šiptar out.

I remember growing up there was a propaganda commie movie where these Dervishes start a mystical dance right before assassinating some Albanian nationalist in the South chanting "Allahu kerkon kurban (Allah wants a sacrifical lamb)." Been terrified of these guys eversince but I think they're harmless and was never aware they actually existed until I saw the Youtube video.

Beg+tash Beg= one who pray tash=now The word Beg (Bey) is related to another great albanian word Begati (Begat) which that means Prosperity. Beg+ati. Beg=Prosper ati= Father (God) Begat=Children of My Holy Kingdom I albania some people having name Beg and last name Bega. Cheers Myself, mystAgogu
