Kann man die Griechen verstehen?
The EU, Greece has not only imposed a rigid austerity measures, but also decreed a change of mentality. But the roots lie deep otherness for more than a cosmetic operation is not expected.

Greeks have no integration problems. They are everywhere at home, cook and begrillen of the world, playing as good spirits in the avenue of lime trees in the port area and supporting roles. In this friendly little people, the dances seem to only as Zorba and is happy, surprised the experts at anything. How was he supposed that also in humans, the pine resin mixed with wine, rice and spices rolled in grape leaves, nearly scoreless soccer European champions were already 2500 years ago and knew that all matter consists of atoms and the earth revolves around the sun?
They have always felt even as the parents of the rest of Europe. Names like the money to their children, without ever listening to them. Now their land has been sent to the nursing home, his government has received a guardian. But that's not even the average Greek. He has credited her politicians never more than an exchange of votes against the issue of illegal building permits. The Greek Life will go on even without their own government - after all, does not have to change who is just perfect.
Language and writing: Without rules, no exceptions ;D
Greeks are unique. Only they write Greek. The abolition of over 2500 years old script, not for discussion. Finally, the Greek alphabet as the model for all other writings of Europe was from Latin to Cyrillic and has changed little since ancient times. Pronunciation and word meanings, however, have changed. So is Greek in the schools of the seventh grade in a compulsory subject - such as imposing an Old High German schoolboy cramming or even gothic.
The foreign travelers coming to meet you. In the majority of all the map names are also in the Latin alphabet which most Greeks (called the English). For a uniform transcription, however we have not tried - in spite of mandatory rules by the UN and EU. The names in the radius of one kilometer is often described in three or more different ways: ΑΓΙΑ - the Greek word for "holy" - such as Agia, Agia or even Ayia. Rules are there, that they ignored both in big and small.
(is that German writing about the Greek language???!!!!?
and parallel it with.....Gothic....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
We're sorry that for 3000 years we use the same alphabet...and the same language...and sorry that we read Thucidides in original, and not in german translations...or ancient or medieval german literature... ;D ;D ;D)
Egoism and Wirgefühl: Every man for himself, but all against the enemy
Just before the crossing has on every car and moped riders tried to take the other to the right of way. "Every man for himself - and certainly against the pedestrian" is the motto. Now, however, a policeman at the crossroads and made a show of hands brings all traffic to a standstill. Suddenly, all drivers and unanimously agreed to start a deafening chorus of horns. ;D The officer submits to the will of the people and recognizes the road. The victorious coalition breaks up just yet, selfishness again has free rein.
Each other are the most fiercely hostile Greeks. No wonder that the civil war in Greece has called for 1944 to 49 more deaths than World War II. On the surface, but it holds together, as left and right to 44 German 1941 fought together against the occupiers.(more than 400.000 civilians by the Germans during 41-44...in no way...bad memory...)
"Isse dikomas" is the greatest compliment to a stranger can make the Greeks: "You're one of us."(he can't get the irony... ;D ;D)
Backward: Of men and Hellenes
Only 30 years ago, many Greeks were among six inhabited continents: the five well-known, plus Greece. For some, there were even four kinds of living things: plants, animals, people and Greeks ;D. The EEC held some for a concoction of the devil in conjunction with the Pope, created to the Orthodox Greek Orthodox under the lash of the Roman compel heretic.
This one has not even bent the Turks. Thus, Istanbul itself is called in official parlance still Konstantinoupolis(of course), in churches and monasteries were blowing the black and yellow flag of the defunct Byzantine Empire in 1453 even footing with blue-white of liberated Greece until 1829. The textbooks promote chauvinism uncensored(for Germans they must say more...), Greek parents to baptize their children to pagan names such as Hippocrates and Iphigenia(they're not pagan...). Sometimes face each other on the football field Plato and Socrates. The past tells of Greek greatness, which lacks the present.(ya ya...heil....)
The "Parea" is: The Community for a moment
Most Greeks are very social people. One likes to go alone or with a friend to dinner or to the music club. The day very differently composed "Parea" said Community counts. For a few hours it is holy. It is usually ad hoc. Three people arrange to meet each other and calls inviting them to come along. After one to two hours for eight or 15 people are together. Now igelt a group that is respected by others as a bloc. No one from the "Parea" would ask at this moment a randomly passing acquaintance with the dazuzusetzen in the tavern.
In Greek, it would be an affront Musiklokal to join as a foreigner or Hasapiko dancing Sirtaki "Parea" - everyone wants to run for and paid the musicians for the private Wunschkonzert.
Unlike eating Pay sham battles killed
The tendency to "Parea" characterizes the table manners. No one appointed by themselves, but everyone can express wishes. The waiter then puts everything into the middle of the table. Everyone takes what he likes as much as he likes. Wine glasses should never be empty, because that would mean that the common table shall seek to provide all still good. Eat his empty plate, would be impolite. It would show that the "Parea" was greedy and hungry, perhaps some rose from the table.
Before that happens, often results in a mock fight for the bill. All rush to accept it. In most cases it is clear in advance who is paying his turn. For the calculation of the tip is demanded from the operator no mathematical skills. It does not round the amount to verbally, but leaves him when he went away in cash on the table.
( ;D ;D,true. To pay each his own is a newly imported custom, and we call it "germaniko"...
Heaven helps: New Saints for new problems
97 percent of Greeks are baptized Orthodox. A large proportion of them is looking not only human but also the heavenly community. The saints are represented as ministers and state secretaries of God in their icons. Which depend not only in countless churches and monasteries, but also in homes, taverns and near the tills in supermarkets and nightclubs. Anyone who has problems, is addressed to them - and preferably equal to a specialist. The St. Paraskevi is responsible for eye ailments, Saint Nikolaos, fishermen, sailors and children.(true...Poseidon had become Agios Nicolas, virgin Athena the virgin Mary etc etc...sorry German that we have traditions...)
For newly discovered disease register new saint. Thus, the phenomenon came in 1959 become sacred Raffail as helpers for people with cancer to the shooting star in the celestial cabinet. Only the politicians will not jump to the site.
Without time and space: Waiting for tomorrow
Orthodox theology does down to the feeling of space and time into the Hellenes. They know no contradiction between this world and the Hereafter: The human world is a tiny part of God's universe, not an equal comparison. The timing is a human construct: The Eternity knows no beginning and no end. Nevertheless, buses and trains, ships and airplanes are trying to be punctual. The word "Avrio" (morning), however, plays a major role - as a dumping ground for unfinished business. Nor is the order in the earthly space you are trying, but nothing more. While there are zip codes and street names (only know the postman) on house numbers one encounters in most of the roads only very sporadically.
Ask An oral Better Society: a look
Greeks do not like city maps and maps to buy some guidebooks and Navis. You wonder through better. Unforgotten the truck driver on the Italian boat, which told of his first and only card experience. He had picked out on his very first ever purchase a route map of Europe from Venice to Nuremberg and chose the route to it by the shape the course of her liked best. She led him over to Switzerland. At Lake Constance cleared him to colleagues that the road over the Brenner would probably have been shorter.
Then he threw away the map and decided to just judge him even more after oral recommendations. Printed should be in anyway critical of Hellas. Thus, the opening times of museums on the web pages of the Ministry of Culture are rarely accurate. It calls better. Phone numbers are already ubiquitous, even in the radio advertisement they are in any spot, no matter what, just repeatedly proclaimed.
Creativity: "I have inspiration":
Many Greeks are creative - not only in the manipulation of statistical data. Thus, a large number of private museums is formed, dedicated to the strangest topics. Giorgos Petrakis in Crete has its own power and using his hands as a tax collector acquired the assets created an outdoor museum of history of human development: it takes the visitor from the Stone Age cave on stations like the invention of the wheel and the birth of Christ up to the first moon landing. Kostas Kotsanas from near Olympia his life to the reconstruction of ancient inventions, has devoted the first robot to the first alarm clock, and exhibited his works since 2009 in the port of Katakolo.
The operator is a laundromat in the south of Crete, however, shows her watercolors only between washing machines and dryers. If she prefers to paint in nature, is a small hand-painted sign on the door: "I have inspiration. Come back tomorrow ".
Greeks on holiday: dream room with Jacuzzi
Greeks also like to take vacation. Preferably with "Parea" in their own country. In summer, the sea, from autumn to spring in mountain villages and more than 20 winter sports resorts between Epirus, Macedonia and the Peloponnese. Even in the most remote areas we now find stylish small guesthouses and restaurants serving regional cuisine. Dream room into a television, a fireplace and a jacuzzi are right next to the bed, or at least in the bathroom.
During lunch, people rely on the oral recommendations of the waiter. The cooks know that they do not cook for foreign tourists, but for the children of Greek mothers who are capable of critical opinion. ;D Many guest houses are built with financial support from the EU. Instead of simple rooms, the building owner rather have created apartments. Which can be easily converted into apartments for their children if the are then grown up. ;D Interests in Brussels, until then no one long.
