You know I was raised in a way that made me think, a man must go to the army to do his service before he becomes a 'real man' etc
I now find this disturbing. If i had kids they would automatically be 3rd gen british because of me, therefore with the current laws they would be exempt from Military service if they pay a certain amount of money.
I am definitely paying to make sure they don't go into a place where death can be ordered upon young men.
I don't agree with national service any longer, especially in times where men could be working, but they have to leave there jobs to go to the army and get paid peanuts.
Its so sad there, I mean an electronics engineer can be ordered to switch on the tv every morning due to his expertism in electronic wtf is that about man!!

One year of military service aint anything big and you guys still have an internal issue to deal with (Kurds). Imagine if you were an Israeli... you lose your youth in the military,

As they say "young men have to fight old men's wars" That's the way all wars go...

i think its quite healthy for young man to go. 1 year isnt that bad. I know your service may be harder than ours since you have kurdish dispute and other main securities. I felt bad when the 4 young kids were blown away because their seargent made him hold a hand grenade. That is too extreme and nonsense. For this i agree with you.

I dont think Turkey needs this service.
They already have the second largest army in the world after America. And dont tell me their army cant handle that.
