What were your favorites?
(Keep in mind I consider Yugoslav anywhere from the actual existence of the state to today if they continue to use figures made famous during the federal period)
My newest favorite is No Man's Land, which I just saw and Grbavica
My top favs are:
- When Father was away on business. - Black Cat, White Cat - Time of the Gypsies

I have to say, when it comes to Yugo cinema, almost all of the best is of Bosnian origin... I guess those who suffer most have the most to tell.

"Underground" could be my favourite movie of all time. Black Cat White cat is pretty good as well. There is a Serbian film festival that tours Australia every year... last time I watched Jesen Stize Dunjo Moja which was pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing that one again actually. One thing that's always pretty impressive is that the cinematography always seems to be brilliant even if the film is shit.

- When Father was away on business (Top ten in my all-time list for sure). - Underground - Time of the Gypsies - Black Cat, White Cat - No Man's land
I just realized all the Yugo movies I like are Nemanja Kusturica's.

Have you seen Grbavica? I think that topped my list after I saw it. I have never seen Underground, but being that it was financed by the Serbian govt, it doesnt give me a very positive impression.
Yea, Kusturica is pretty much Yugo cinema, for the most part. As big of a POS as he may be.

And I wouldn't call Nemanja a POS, he followd his heart after all.

Any man who betrays his people and becomes such a radical opponent of them is a POS in my opinion. His father was a worshipping Muslim, and he spit on that after the man died. Thats a sign of POSdom is there ever was one. Its one thing to convert, but to then legitimize the violence, thats another.

He's most likely non-religious at all as he grew up in Communist Yugoslavia. In my book Bosnians are Moslem Serbs. And I'm sure his forefathers converted from Orthodoxy to Islam so what does that make them?

In the aftermath of a war inwhich you people were nearly exterminated. Its like post-Shoah Jews who convert to Christianity.
Eitherway, I dont want to turn this threat political.

Eitherway, I dont want to turn this threat political. Yep, let's not. Any other movies you recommend? There's this movie I can't recall right now with 4 guys (or maybe 5) who grew up together in YU and then meet some 30 years later and reminisce about their childhood. Very good movie. Hopefully someone can come up with a name.

Btw, I was happy to note that the beautiful Branka Katic, the Serbian actress in Black Cat/White Cat, has actually gotten off of her feet quite well. I have seen in her the German film, Im Juli, and in the recent film Public Enemies. Im guessing that she came to know Johnny Depp through his acquaintance with Kosturica.

The Albanians here might be interested in "Vuk sa Prokletija". Old movie, should be remade. Of course it's completly forgetable compared to most movies mentioned in here, but kinda cool in a nostalgic way.

"ok. You know how we were talking about that serb movie coming out? Well that movie is fucked. No pun intended. Alright ye serbs overdo it in the sex department in movies but this one was way way way overdone. And one scene even made me throw up coz of how wrong and vulgar it was. Mind you. I was only skipping through t...he movie to sus it out. I'm not even gonna watch it. Oh my god it was fucked up. Like not even americans can make something that fucked up as the serbs can.
