What '80 year period of freedom' are we referring to here? From 1826->1906, i guess, although the guy seems a little lost now and then.

Thats how saxons called Serbs at this time around 1900-1918. (e.g. in New York times papers for 1917, 1918 Serbian Epic struggle against the austro-bulgo axis, journalists urged americans to go to their churches and pray for the good of "Servians")

I'm guessing there wasn't a lot of Serbs in New York at the time.

Anyway, "helping" Serbs fight an aggressor from the east doesn't mean they can oppress Serbs in the west. Which had been the case since at least 1908 when the oppression was officialized.

AH took Bosnian territory (through which Serbia could have had access to the sea) with large amount of Serbian population and encouraged Serbia to obtain Macedonia as a "compensation". All future conflicts were initiated...

Aayy, you are totally right, Austrians promised the Serbs Macedonia, populated by Bulgarians, to Serbs in exchange for Bosnia, which was populated by Serbs.

^ ? Sorry Ioan, Austria created the buffer state Albania in 1912 to keep Serbia away from the Adriatic. While the Ottomans supported the Bulgars for Vardar.....Russia even supported the Bulgars for the region too (Russia wanted a super slav state Bulgarska to dominate at the expense of serbia and greece).

Novi is right. Serbia was more aligned with France than Russia. Just look at the military uniforms.

And Bulgaria with Germany, but that doesnt make Serbia and Bulgaria unslavic. So he is not right. Russias favoritism shifted from one to the other and both were politically more aligned with western powers.

That's what happens when your leader isn't purebred and is related to every other leader in Europe.
