I've never heard anyone from the Balkans call himself a "Yugo" or Yugoslavian...nor have I ever heard anyone refer to them as "Yugos" or Yugoslavians. If people are from Bosnia, they say that they are. If they're from Serbia, they say that they are...
About the ignorance thing...I've always wondered if I'd offend my, say, Bosnian friends if I said to them that they're like Serbs or Croatian, or if I said to my Serb friends that they're like Bosnians and Croatians. Of course, I know there're differences, and I would never say they're the same, but...it'd be interesting to see their reactions if I did ;D.

If u ask a one single dude where hes from he will probably tell you which country or which ethnicity he is. But if theres a bunch of Serbians, Croats, Bosnians the answer will usually by yugos. Explaining it all to people who don't know the difference can be frustrating. Just look at the group "Mi juggar" there thousand of people. www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=326124587166&ref=ts

I have no problem being called yugo.
The reality is that no one knows what and where serbia croatia or bosnia is. They think we are somewhere next to russia.
Most people however know of Yugoslavia.
