SOUTH Australian Premier Mike Rann has been cleared of racially vilifying the people of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The Human Rights Commission found Mr Rann had no case to answer for claiming the Macedonian state was stealing Greek history and culture, an accusation the Premier made in a speech at a Greek festival in Adelaide last year. In the speech, Mr Rann also accused Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov of "stirring up trouble in a most dangerous way" with Greece. The comments sparked a complaint to the HRC by South Australia's Macedonian community but judge Catherine Branson ruled it to be "lacking in substance". Mr Rann said he abhorred racism and his criticisms were directed at the policies of the Ivanov government, not Macedonians. "I stand on my record of racial and ethnic tolerance. I will not be intimidated by anyone from speaking forthrightly on behalf of historical truth," Mr Rann said. www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/forthright-rann-cleared-of-racism/story-e6frg6nf-1225885416372

It is them who create problems (the west) and it is again them (the west) who give justice. And the ... locals who are left behind, in the balkans, away from USA/Europe/Australia ... have to bear all this imported hatred ... for the benefit of them (the west again).
Lets face it, yes Ancient Macedonians were Greeks and not Slavs, on one hand, but also pre-1913 at least 3,000 towns and villages in (todays Greek part of) Macedonia had slavic names... Add to that more than 1000 slavic toponyms in Epirus, 1500 in Peloponese, etc... and we get the whole picture...
Excuse me Arhilleas, but if we are here to claim anything Alexander built, then most of todays Greece could be very well claimed by the slavs as well...
Moral of the story: Lets all stop being fed with fresh imported nationalism like some stupid african tribes, and start cooperating.
We are all grown ups...

As far as this Rann guy is concerned, who cares!
"It is them who create problems (the west) and it is again them (the west) who give justice. And the ... locals who are left behind, in the balkans, away from USA/Europe/Australia ... have to bear all this imported hatred ... for the benefit of them (the west again)."
Macedonia and Greece should worry about improving their relationship, not what the West or others are saying or doing about them.
"Lets face it, yes Ancient Macedonians were Greeks and not Slavs, on one hand, but also pre-1913 at least 3,000 towns and villages in (todays Greek part of) Macedonia had slavic names..."
The Ancient Macedonians were a people that took on the Greek culture as their own. They were not Slavs, I agree. I also agree that towns in Northern Greece had Slavic names, like Arnissa was once called Ostrovo.

I also agree that towns in Northern Greece had Slavic names, like Arnissa was once called Ostrovo. corrections, additions: a) By *all* standards Ancient Macedonians were 100% GREEK. b) High Density of Slavic toponyms was not found only in Makedonia, but also in southern Greece as well.

^^^ Just to give an example, maybe Attica or Central Greece in Total used to have more Slavic toponyms than Thrace... Thrace (along with Crete) is the place with the smaller number of renamings.

Euramericans anglosaxons have used all the concepts behind the greek ancient spirit and democracy, to justify their expansionist policy and imperial wars overseas. Makedonism will not do slavMakedonians any good. In contrast, pro-Slavism will definitely benefit them. Maybe panslavism is what the saxons are afraid of... a nation of 100s of millions with the brains to make ultra-weapons.

I think he means Macedonians need to look to the northern countries as inspiration and partnerships in order to progress, not south. I think.
And I agree.

This Mike Rann has a Greek fetish of some sort. Not really...That's your opinion and you're entitled to it...it's just that he's well informed that without Greek studies there is no real education...Look at science, mathematics, astronomy and many more all use the Greek alphabets, words with Greek origins. He also is acknowledging the importance of the Greek culture and language...Something you people should be doing rather spiting on the man who spread to the then known world. To reject this fact is to reject the man Alexander and his Macedonians legacy all together... .

Oh I agree and Hellenic history should definitely be taught in history classes.
But to learn to speak Greek in Australia would have very little benefit. They need to start teaching Mandarin Chinese instead.

They should indeed teach Chinese language in Australia schools. There may be just 200,000 or so people in Australia that speak Greek. Not worth the effort since those 200,000 or so are Greeks, or half Greeks, or 1/4 Greeks, etc!!!

More than that though Demosthenes, China is Australia's biggest trading partner. Our economy here relies on China immensely so it would make sense to teach Australian children Mandarin to prepare them for future business careers with Asia.

Chinese language is primitive and they still use an archaic heiroglyphic alphabet similar to ancient egyptian and sumerian cuneiform. They should be learning Esperanto, i hear it will be the language of a unified planet earth one day.
